In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

P2Y6 receptor inhibition perturbs CCL2-evoked signalling in human monocytic and peripheral blood mononuclear cells [PDF]
This work is supported the British Heart Foundation [grant number PG/13/22/ 30077]. Deposited in PMC for immediate release. The chemokine CCL2 serves to target circulating monocytes and other leukocytes to tissue during innate immune responses, and ...

Tissue Plasminogen Activator Is Not Involved in Methamphetamine-Induced Neurotoxicity
To investigate the role of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) in methamphetamine (METH)-induced dopaminergic neurotoxicity, we compared the changes in tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and dopamine transporter (DAT) levels in the striatum after repetitive ...

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Conservation of signaling pathways of xenobiotic-sensing orphan nuclear receptors, chicken xenobiotic receptor, constitutive androstane receptor, and pregnane X receptor, from birds to humans [PDF]
Chicken xenobiotic receptor, pregnane X receptor, and constitutive androstane receptor are orphan nuclear receptors that have recently been discovered to regulate drug- and steroid-mediated induction of hepatic cytochromes P450 (CYP).

Functional effects of mutations in the skeletal muscle ryanodine receptor type 1 (RYR1) linked to malignant hyperthermia and central core disease [PDF]
Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a pharmacogenetic disorder with autosomal dominant inheritance. In susceptible individuals, a MH crisis may be triggered by commonly used halogenated anaesthetics (halothane, isoflurane) or muscle relaxants ...

Dabigatran Potentiates Gemcitabine-Induced Growth Inhibition of Pancreatic Cancer in Mice
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal solid malignancies, with few treatment options. We have recently shown that expression of protease activated receptor (PAR)-1 in the tumor microenvironment drives the progression and induces the chemoresistance

Degeneration and regeneration of peripheral nerves: role of thrombin and its receptor PAR-1
The peripheral nervous system has a striking regeneration potential and after damage extensive changes in the differentiation state both of the injured neurons and of the Schwann cells are observed. Schwann cells, in particular, undergo a large scale change in gene expression becoming able to support axonal regeneration.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
