Drosophila S6 Kinase like inhibits neuromuscular junction growth by downregulating the BMP receptor thickveins. [PDF]
Synaptic connections must be precisely controlled to ensure proper neural circuit formation. In Drosophila melanogaster, bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) promotes growth of the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) by binding and activating the BMP ligand ...

The Receptor-Like Kinase AtVRLK1 Regulates Secondary Cell Wall Thickening1[OPEN]
AtVRLK1 functions as a signaling component in coordinating cell elongation and cell wall thickening during growth and development. During the growth and development of land plants, some specialized cells, such as tracheary elements, undergo secondary ...

Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Receptor‐like kinase activity in membranes of Arabidopsis thaliana [PDF]
A class of protein kinases in the plant Arabidopsis thaliana has been identified which has biochemical characteristics similar to those of the animal receptor protein kinases. These plant protein kinases are membrane‐associated, glycosylated, exhibit a preference for Mn2+ relative to Mg2+, and range from 115 to 135 kDa when identified by renaturation ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Lectin receptor kinases in plant innate immunity
A key feature of innate immunity is the ability to recognize and respond to potential pathogens in a highly sensitive and specific manner. In plants, the first layer of defense is induced after recognition by pattern recognition receptors of microbe ...

Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Ligand-Induced Receptor-like Kinase Complex Regulates Floral Organ Abscission in Arabidopsis.
Abscission is a developmental process that enables plants to shed unwanted organs. In Arabidopsis, the floral organ abscission is regulated by a signaling pathway consisting of the peptide ligand IDA, the receptor-like kinases (RLKs) HAE and HSL2, and a ...
