Corticosterone Potentiation of Cocaine-Induced Reinstatement of Conditioned Place Preference in Mice is Mediated by Blockade of the Organic Cation Transporter 3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The mechanisms by which stressful life events increase the risk of relapse in recovering cocaine addicts are not well understood. We previously reported that stress, via elevated corticosterone, potentiates cocaine-primed reinstatement of cocaine seeking

Sympathetic Activation Promotes Kidney Fibrosis in Mice via Macrophage‐Derived N2ICD‐Enriched Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Norepinephrine/α2B‐adrenoceptor axis promotes the secretion of Notch2 intracellular domain (N2ICD)‐enriched extracellular vesicles (EVs) from macrophages. These EVs deliver N2ICD into fibroblasts, thereby inducing their activation. Deletion of Notch2 or α2B‐AR in macrophages disrupts N2ICD‐enriched EV formation and alleviates kidney fibrosis in mice ...

Preservation of ALYREF Phase Separation Mitigates Doxorubicin‐Induced Cardiomyocyte DNA Damage and Cardiotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Binding of Doxorubicin to ALYREF disrupts its phase‐separated condensate and induces DNA damage and apoptosis in cardiomyocytes Abstract The clinical utility of the anticancer agent doxorubicin (DOX) is limited by its dose‐dependent cardiotoxicity.

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome Is Associated With Elevated G‐Protein Coupled Receptor Autoantibodies

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2019
Background The etiology of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is yet to be established. The disorder is often misdiagnosed as chronic anxiety or a panic disorder because the autonomic failure in these patients is not severe.

The Effect of a Reduced-Calorie Diet on alpha-2 Adrenergic Receptor Responsiveness in Abdominal Adipose Tissue in Obese Men During Exercise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
There is at present an imperfect understanding of the effect of diet on availability of inhibitory receptors in fat cells during exercise among obese men. *Objective:* The purpose of this study was to determine whether diet results in

Alpha‐adrenergic receptors in human blood vessels. [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1986
The evidence for the presence of postjunctional alpha 1‐ and alpha 2‐ adrenoceptor subtypes in human blood vessels is reviewed. Experiments in healthy subjects are described that show that alpha 1‐ as well as alpha 2‐adrenoceptor mediated vasoconstriction contribute to vascular smooth muscle tone and that adrenaline and noradrenaline have similar ...

Adenylosuccinate Synthase 1 Deficiency Improves Energy Metabolism by Promoting Adipose Tissue Re‐esterification via Glycerol Kinase Upregulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Working model of Adss1‐mediated regulation of energy metabolism in adipose tissue. In beige adipocytes, Adss1 interacts with HDAC3 in the cytoplasm, and its loss reduces nuclear HDAC3 while increasing cytosolic fractions. This redistribution suppresses HDAC activity and enhances H3K27 acetylation at the Gk promoter, leading to transcriptional ...

Roles of adrenergic α1 and dopamine D1 and D2 receptors in the mediation of the desynchronization effects of modafinil in a mouse EEG synchronization model. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
BACKGROUND: Synchronized electroencephalogram (EEG) activity is observed in pathological stages of cognitive impairment and epilepsy. Modafinil, known to increase the release of catecholamines, is a potent wake-promoting agent, and has shown some ...

Adaptations to iron deficiency: cardiac functional responsiveness to norepinephrine, arterial remodeling, and the effect of beta-blockade on cardiac hypertrophy. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
BackgroundIron deficiency (ID) results in ventricular hypertrophy, believed to involve sympathetic stimulation. We hypothesized that with ID 1) intravenous norepinephrine would alter heart rate (HR) and contractility, 2) abdominal aorta would be larger ...

Type 2 Diabetes‐Associated Phenylacetylglutamine Induces Deleterious Inflammation Cycle in Myeloid Cells through β2 Adrenergic Receptors and Impedes Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The microbiota‐derived metabolite phenylacetylglutamine (PAGln) is elevated in type 2 diabetes and tightly associated with poor healing in both diabetic and non‐diabetic human patients. PAGln promotes mouse inflammation and impairs healing through a transmissible β2‐adrenergic receptor–mediated trained‐immunity loop.
