Recent advances on the mechanisms regulating cholangiocyte proliferation and the significance of the neuroendocrine regulation of cholangiocyte pathophysiology [PDF]
Cholangiocytes are epithelial cells lining the biliary epithelium. Cholangiocytes play several key roles in the modification of ductal bile and are also the target cells in chronic cholestatic liver diseases (i.e., cholangiopathies) such as PSC, PBC ...

An update on the potential for male contraception : emerging options [PDF]
The human population continues to grow and is estimated to rise to 10.1 billion by the end of the century. Therefore, there is still an unmet need for safe and highly effective contraceptive options for both men and women.

Association of Human Follitropin (FSH) Receptor with Splicing Variant of Human Lutropin/Choriogonadotropin Receptor Negatively Controls the Expression of Human FSH Receptor [PDF]
Abstract A splice variant of human lutropin (LH)/choriogonadotropin (CG)-receptor [hLHR(exon 9)] that lacks exon 9 was previously cloned in the corpus luteum of a woman with a normal menstrual cycle. Supported by a detergent-soluble binding assay and a receptor biotinylation experiment, the receptor binding assay shows hLHR(exon 9) is ...

PACAP induces FSHβ gene expression via EPAC. [PDF]
Gonadotropins, luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), are heterodimers of a common α subunit and unique β subunits. Regulation of their levels, primarily by GnRH, is critical for reproductive function.

Generating FSH antagonists and agonists through immunization against FSH receptor N-terminal decapeptides [PDF]
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) via interaction with G-protein coupled specific receptors plays a central role in the control of gametogenesis in mammals of both sexes. In females, FSH is crucial for follicle growth, follicle maturation and ovulation.

Novas perspectivas no diagnóstico do hipogonadismo pediátrico masculino: a importância do AMH como marcador de células de Sertoli [PDF]
Sertoli cells are the most active cell population in the testis during infancy and childhood. In these periods of life, hypogonadism can only be evidenced without stimulation tests, if Sertoli cell function is assessed.

Synergistic effects of steroids with FSH on folliculogenesis, steroidogenesis and FSH- and hCG-receptors in hypophysectomized mice [PDF]
Injection of ovine FSH (4 micrograms day-1) for 4 days into hypophysectomized mice does not restore folliculogenesis to normal cyclic values. This may be due to insufficient production of oestradiol. The present study was designed to determine whether FSH- and LH-induced oestradiol was critical for growth and differentiation of follicles at all stages.

Gonadotropins in the Russian Sturgeon: Their Role in Steroid Secretion and the Effect of Hormonal Treatment on Their Secretion. [PDF]
In the reproduction process of male and female fish, pituitary derived gonadotropins (GTHs) play a key role. To be able to specifically investigate certain functions of Luteinizing (LH) and Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) in Russian sturgeon ...

Gonadotropin and kisspeptin gene expression, but not GnRH, are impaired in cFOS deficient mice. [PDF]
cFOS is a pleiotropic transcription factor, which binds to the AP1 site in the promoter of target genes. In the pituitary gonadotropes, cFOS mediates induction of FSHβ and GnRH receptor genes.

Ovarian Response to Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) Stimulation Depends on the FSH Receptor Genotype* [PDF]
Abstract Because the ovarian response to FSH stimulation in assisted reproduction is variable, ranging from hyporesponse to hyperresponse, with the possible complication of ovarian hyperstimulation, it would be of great benefit to predict the response of the patients to FSH.
