Discovery of PACAP and its receptors in the brain

open access: yesThe Journal of Headache and Pain, 2018
Pituitary adenylate-cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) is a 27- or 38-amino acid neuropeptide, which belongs to the vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP)/glucagon/secretin family. PACAP shows particularly high homology (~ 68%) to VIP.

Balanced Coagonist of GLP-1 and Glucagon Receptors Corrects Dyslipidemia by Improving FGF21 Sensitivity in Hamster Model

open access: yes, 2017
Hyperlipidemia is often associated with obesity and diabetes, and can lead to serious complications like atherosclerosis and fatty liver disease. Coagonist of GLP-1 and glucagon receptors is a therapy under clinical investigation for treatment of obesity

Enhancing Meat Quality Through Dietary Fiber: Insights Into the Gut Microbiota‐Derived Short‐Chain Fatty Acids‐Muscle Axis

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary fiber (DF) modulates meat quality through the gut‐muscle axis by reshaping gut microbiota, improving intestinal integrity, reducing inflammation, and regulating muscle metabolism. These mechanisms influence muscle fiber characteristics and post‐mortem biochemistry, thereby enhancing tenderness, juiciness, color, flavor, and nutritional value of

Potential off-target effects of beta-blockers on gut hormone receptors: In silico study including GUT-DOCK-A web service for small-molecule docking.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
The prolonged use of many currently available drugs results in the severe side effect of the disruption of glucose metabolism leading to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM.

Ixekizumab With Tirzepatide Achieved Greater Disease Control Than Ixekizumab Alone in Adults With Psoriatic Arthritis and Overweight or Obesity: Results From a Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Overweight or obesity is prevalent in 72% to 82% of individuals with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). We assessed the efficacy and safety of ixekizumab (IXE) concomitantly administered with tirzepatide (TZP) compared with IXE alone in adult participants with active PsA and overweight with at least one weight‐related comorbidity or obesity.

Mathematical modeling of the glucagon challenge test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
\u3cp\u3eA model for the homeostasis of glucose through the regulating hormones glucagon and insulin is described. It contains a subsystem that models the internalization of the glucagon receptor. Internalization is a mechanism in cell signaling, through

Beyond right or wrong: How partial credit scoring on multiple‐choice questions improves student performance and assessment perceptions

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims In this study, we examined the effects of assigning partial credit to selected answer choices on student performance and perceptions in a pharmacology course using Type A multiple‐choice questions (MCQs). Methods Partial credit scoring was incorporated into quizzes and exams in a 10‐week pharmacology course for postbaccalaureate premedical ...

How Metabolic State May Regulate Fear: Presence of Metabolic Receptors in the Fear Circuitry

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2018
Metabolic status impacts on the emotional brain to induce behavior that maintains energy balance. While hunger suppresses the fear circuitry to promote explorative food-seeking behavior, satiety or obesity may increase fear to prevent unnecessary risk ...

Trends in the utilization, expenditure and costs of noninsulin glucose‐lowering drugs in the Medicaid population: Steady increases in glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonist and sodium–glucose transporter‐2 inhibitor use, prices and expenditure

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims This study aimed to analyse changes in the utilization, expenditure and average cost of noninsulin glucose‐lowering drugs (GLDs) between 2008 and 2023. Methods This was a retrospective observational study of 2008–2023 data from the National Medicaid State Drug Utilization database.

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.
