Design, Recombinant Fusion Expression and Biological Evaluation of Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide Analogue as Novel Antimicrobial Agent

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
Antimicrobial peptides represent an emerging category of therapeutic agents with remarkable structural and functional diversity. Modified vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) (VIP analogue 8 with amino acid sequence “FTANYTRLRRQLAVRRYLAAILGRR”) without ...

Tuning recombinant protein expression to match secretion capacity

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2018
BackgroundThe secretion of recombinant disulfide-bond containing proteins into the periplasm of Gram-negative bacterial hosts, such as E. coli, has many advantages that can facilitate product isolation, quality and activity.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

The Sprayed Application of Recombinantly Expressed CpRap2.4A Confers Protective Activity Against Heat Stress in Nicotiana tabacum

open access: yesCrops
Drastic changes in temperature, salinity of soils and drought are some of the most studied abiotic stressors in important crops. Plants have developed various biochemical mechanisms to counteract these conditions. Transcription factors play a significant

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Plant-Derived Hydrolysates Are a Suitable Replacement for Tryptone N1 in Recombinant Protein Expression Using Human Embryonic Kidney (HEK293-6E) Cells

open access: yesBioTech
Human embryonic kidney (HEK293) cells are a widespread choice for recombinant protein expression. To optimise yields, the hydrolysate Tryptone N1 (TN1) is commonly added post-transfection. TN1 is obtained by controlled enzymatic digestion of casein.

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Introduction of recombinant antigens against Jembrana Disease Virus into plants

open access: yes, 2010
Jembrana disease virus (JDV) is a bovine lentivirus that causes an acute severe disease syndrome in banteng cattle (Bos javanicus) in Indonesia. In order to develop a vaccine, JDV capsid (CA) protein together with transactivator of transcription (Tat ...

Purification and Phytotoxic Analysis of Botrytis cinerea Virulence Factors: New Avenues for Crop Protection

open access: yesAgriculture, 2012
Botrytis cinerea is a necrotrophic fungus infecting over 230 plant species worldwide. This highly adaptable pathogen can afflict agricultural products from seed to storage, causing significant economic losses and instability in the food supply.
