Comparing survey and assessment data: Consequences for stock evaluation of Northeast Arctic Greenland halibut

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2003
Based on VPA-estimates of abundance, survey data and commercial catch statistics of Northeast Arctic Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides Walbaum), the paper describes trends by year-class and age in the distribution of Greenland halibut ...

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Relation between recruitment, sea surface temperature, and the density-independent mortality of the Pacific sardine (Sardinops caeruleus) off the southwest coast of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2003
The density-independent mortality, considered in the stock-recruitment model of Ricker, was related to the interannual variability of the sea surface temperature (SST) during 1981 to 1993 in Bahía Magdalena, Baja California Sur and Isla Cedros, Baja ...

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Recruitment and post-settlement growth of juvenile Merluccius merluccius on the western Mediterranean shelf

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2004
Young-of-the-year European hake (Merluccius merluccius) were sampled during four seasonal cruises between November 1998 and September 1999. The greatest numbers and biomass were found in spring 1999.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
