Precipitation and Temperature‐Dependent Locomotor Performance Drive the Abundance of a Neotropical Lizard

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 6, November 2025.
We investigated how climate and ecophysiology affect the demography of the lizard Tropidurus oreadicus in the Brazilian Cerrado. While lizards were more frequently captured in the dry season, their abundance peaked during the rainy season when their locomotor performance was highest.

Local and landscape features of urban fragments determine the occurrence of stingless bees As características locais e paisagísticas dos fragmentos urbanos determinam a ocorrência de uma espécie de abelhas sem ferrão

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 1027-1036, November 2025.
Both local and landscape factors associated with habitat availability and quality determine the persistence of stingless bees across fragments. Places where the species occurs have local and landscape characteristics distinctive from those where it is absent.

The Rapid Recovery of a Caatinga Dry Forest is Mediated by Disturbance‐Adapted Species

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 4, July 2025.
Overall, regenerating and old‐growth forest stands exhibited similar plant diversity across all ontogenetic stages, with a negligible role played by forest stand age, precipitation, and chronic human disturbance. Species exclusively recorded as adults or seeds were mostly dispersed by animals, indicating that several species fail in either dispersing ...

Successful recovery of native plants post‐invasive removal in forest understories is driven by native community features

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 35, Issue 2, March 2025.
Abstract Temperate forest understories hold the majority of the plant diversity present in these ecosystems and play an essential role in the recruitment and establishment of native trees. However, the long‐term persistence of diverse and functional forest understories is threatened by the impacts of invasive plants.

Complex and Dynamic Effects of an Extreme Low Temperature Weather Event on Invasive Plant Populations and Resident Communities

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 3, March 2025.
Invasive plant species might benefit more from climate change, though evidence for that is not clear. Here, we show that the effects of a low‐temperature extreme weather event can result in a dramatic reduction in both vegetative and reproductive growth of invasive populations of Gunnera tinctoria (giant rhubarb) in the west of Ireland.

Impacts of higher daytime temperatures on viable pollen and fruit production in common Cerrado tree Byrsonima pachyphylla (Malpighiaceae)

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 56, Issue 5, September 2024.
Temperatures in the Brazilian Cerrado—an important, complex, and biodiverse savannah ecosystem–are increasing, potentially impacting many aspects of plant development and function, including sexual reproduction, which is thought to be particularly sensitive to temperature stress.
