Genetic correlations for more important traits between S1 and HS families in two composites of maize (Zea mays L.) [PDF]
Genetic correlations for more important agronomic traits between S1 and HS families of two composites of maize (Composite B and M) were investigated. For the grain yield genotypic correlation between S1 and HS families in Comp.

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Reciprocal recurrent selection in maize enhances heterosis and ears yield
The objective of the research was to evaluate recurrent selection strategies in maize (Zea mays L.) by determining the expected and realized responses to selection, as well as the alterations in heterosis, of hybrids from the cross between the original ...

Deep purple – an open-pollinated variety to induce haploids in tropical maize
Deep purple is an open-pollinated variety, well adapted to tropical conditions, developed to induce maternal haploids in maize. The founders were W23, Stock6, and an experimental tropical maize population. The inducer population inherits the dominant the

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Recurrent selection for downy-mildew resistance in pearl millet [PDF]
One population of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) highly susceptible to downy mildew (Sclerospora graminicola (Sacc.) Schroet.) was subjected to two cycles of recurrent selection for downy mildew resistance using a modified greenhouse ...

The prediction of gains from selection allows the comparison of breeding methods and selection strategies, although these estimates may be biased. The objective of this study was to investigate the extent of such bias in predicting genetic gain. For this,

Recurrent selection in half-sib families of a maize variety from western Santa Catarina, Brazil [PDF]
: The process of maize variety selection conducted by farmers follows an empirical approach, which slows down the fixation of traits of agronomic interest.
