Nucleoid‐associated Rok differentially affects chromosomal transformation on Bacillus subtilis recombination‐deficient cells

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 23, Issue 6, Page 3318-3331, June 2021., 2021
Summary Rok, a Bacillus subtilis nucleoid‐associated protein (NAP), negatively regulates competence development and silences xenogeneic genes. We show that rok inactivation increases rpoB482 natural intraspecies chromosomal transformation (CT) and plasmid transformation to a different extent.

The Reactivity of Multidentate Schiff Base Ligands Derived from Bi‐ and Terphenyl Polyamines towards M(II) (M=Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd) and M(III) (M=Co, Y, Lu)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, Volume 2021, Issue 19, Page 1869-1889, May 20, 2021., 2021
Metal complexes of Schiff base ligands derived from a m‐terphenyl‐2,2’,2’’‐triamine were synthesized and studied by means of NMR spectroscopy and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis. The ligands were found to act as tetradentate, pentadentate, or hexadentate ligands, depending on the electronic properties of the substituents of the ligand, as ...

RecX is involved in antioxidant mechanisms of the radioresistant bacteriumDeinococcus radiodurans [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2005
Deinococcus radiodurans shows remarkable resistance to reactive oxygen species (ROS), generated by irradiation. Disruption of recX (dr1310) in D. radiodurans using targeted mutagenesis method enhanced its ROS scavenging activity, and recX overexpression in this bacterium repressed its antioxidant activity significantly. Further analyses on catalase and

RecX protein: Molecular insights into negative regulation of RecA protein and implications in HR processes

open access: yes, 2023
Homologous recombination (HR) is essential for genome stability and for maintaining genetic diversity. In eubacteria, RecA protein plays a key role during DNA repair, transcription, and HR.

Mycobacterial recA is cotranscribed with a potential regulatory gene called recX [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, 1997
The recA gene of Mycobacterium smegmatis has been cloned and sequenced. The amino acid sequence of the RecA protein is highly homologous to other RecA proteins. Three other potential open reading frames were identified. One of these showed extensive homology to a protein, HypB, involved in the incorporation of nickel into hydrogenases.

RecA Regulation by RecU and DprA During Bacillus subtilis Natural Plasmid Transformation

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Natural plasmid transformation plays an important role in the dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes in bacteria. During this process, Bacillus subtilis RecA physically interacts with RecU, RecX, and DprA.

RecX protein abrogates ATP hydrolysis and strand exchange promoted by RecA: insights into negative regulation of homologous recombination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In many eubacteria, coexpression of recX with recA is essential for attenuation of the deleterious effects of recA overexpression; however, the molecular mechanism has remained enigmatic.

Mutagenesis Induced by Sub-Lethal Doses of Ciprofloxacin: Genotypic and Phenotypic Differences Between the Pseudomonas aeruginosa Strain PA14 and Clinical Isolates

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Bacterial resistance is a severe threat to global public health. Exposure to sub-lethal concentrations has been considered a major driver of mutagenesis leading to antibiotic resistance in clinical settings.

Electron microscopy of RecA variant protein filaments on cssDNA, with and without treatment by RecX protein.

open access: yes, 2015
Electron micrographs show filament formation of wild type RecA and RecA variant proteins on M13mp18 ssDNA (A) without RecX protein and (B) with 100 nM RecX protein.

Kinetics of recA and recX induction in drug-susceptible and MDR clinical strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2014
To investigate and compare the expression of recA and recX, components of the SOS pathway, following rifampicin treatment in drug-susceptible and MDR clinical strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.Strains (M. tuberculosis and Mycobacterium smegmatis) were subjected to rifampicin- and mitomycin-induced stress for 36 h followed by RNA extraction.
