Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Laboratory and clinical management of leukocytospermia and hematospermia: a review

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Reproductive Health, 2020
Leukocytospermia and hematospermia are defined as the presence of abnormally high white blood cell and red blood cell concentration in the semen, respectively. Numerous etiologies and various implications on fertility have been identified.

Combining Biomimetic Block Copolymer Worms with an Ice‐Inhibiting Polymer for the Solvent‐Free Cryopreservation of Red Blood Cells

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2016
The first fully synthetic polymer‐based approach for red‐blood‐cell cryopreservation without the need for any (toxic) organic solvents is reported. Highly hydroxylated block copolymer worms are shown to be a suitable replacement for hydroxyethyl starch ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

The mechanisms underlying the impact of erythrocytes on coagulation and thrombus formation

open access: yesZhongguo shuxue zazhi
Red blood cells (RBCs), as a key component determining the hemorheological properties, play a significant role in the dynamic process of thrombosis by regulating blood viscosity, shear stress distribution, and complex molecular mechanisms (including ...

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

ASSOCIATION OF HUMAN NEUTROPHIL ANTIGENS WITH HAPLOTYPES IN SICKLE CELL ANEMIA

open access: yesHematology, Transfusion and Cell Therapy
Introduction: The SLC44A2 gene (rs2288094) encodes a choline-like membrane transporter expressed in various cells including blood cells. Genetic variants in this gene are associated with blood antigen polymorphisms, such as the human neutrophil antigens (

Longitudinal circulating tumor DNA profiling in patients with advanced endometrial cancer using an off‐the‐shelf targeted NGS panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumour heterogeneity complicates precision management of advanced endometrial cancer. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a minimally invasive strategy to capture tumor evolution and therapeutic resistance. Here, we compare tumor‐agnostic NGS with tumor‐informed ddPCR, outlining their relative sensitivity, concordance, and clinical implications ...

Hemochromatosis alters the sensitivity of red blood cells to mechanical stress

open access: yes, 2020
Background: Hemochromatosis (HH) is characterized by chronic iron accumulation, leading to deleterious effects to various organ systems. A common approach to managing iron load involves large-volume venesection.

Preliminary study of alterations in human red blood cells by irradiation with high energy photons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Introduction: Transfusion-associated graft-versus-host disease can be prevented by treating cellular blood products with gamma irradiation. A wide range of gamma irradiation dose levels are used in routine practice, but gamma irradiation dose of 25 Gy ...
