Analysis of the transcriptomic profiles of Mandarin fish (Siniperca chuatsi) infected with red sea bream iridovirus (RSIV)

Microbial Pathogenesis, 2023
Red sea bream iridovirus (RSIV) belongs to the family Iridoviridae, genus Megalocytivirus, which could widely infect marine fish, causing diseases and huge economic losses. Now it has been reported that RSIV was also detected in diseased mandarin fish.

Protection of red sea bream Pagrus major against red sea bream iridovirus infection by vaccination with a recombinant viral protein

Microbiology and Immunology, 2010
Megalocytivirus infections cause serious mass mortality in marine fish in East and Southeast Asian countries. In this study the immunogenicity of crude subunit vaccines against infection by the Megalocytivirus RSIV was investigated. Three capsid proteins, 18R, 351R and a major capsid protein, were selected for use as crude subunit vaccines.

Development of red sea bream iridovirus concentration method in seawater by iron flocculation

Aquaculture, 2016
Abstract Pathogen dynamics in environmental water are considered to be highly associated with the prevalence of fish disease. To examine the dynamics of red sea bream iridovirus (RSIV), which has caused serious damage in marine aquacultures in Japan, we developed a highly sensitive and quantitative method by combining the viral concentration and real-

Whole‐genome analysis of red sea bream iridovirus spread in 2021 in Japan provided epidemiological and viral traits insight

Journal of Fish Diseases, 2022
AbstractRed sea bream iridovirus (RSIV) is the pathogen that causes red sea bream iridoviral disease. It causes a huge loss to the Japanese aquaculture industry. In 2021, outbreaks of red sea bream iridovirus occurred in South Japan. This study analysed nine whole‐genome sequences of RSIV isolated in Oita and Ehime Prefectures in 2021 using a short ...

Molecular cloning, characterization and expression analysis of complement components in red sea bream (Pagrus major) after Edwardsiella tarda and red sea bream Iridovirus (RSIV) challenge

Fish and Shellfish Immunology, 2018
The complement system plays an important role in immune regulation and acts as the first line of defense against any pathogenic attack. To comprehend the red sea bream (Pagrus major) immune response, three complement genes, namely, pmC1r, pmMASP and pmC3, belonging to the classical, lectin and alternative complement cascade, respectively, were ...

Evaluation of the diagnostic assays detecting red sea bream iridovirus infection at different severity levels

Journal of Virological Methods
Red sea bream iridovirus (RSIV) is a highly contagious viral infection that affects various fish species and poses a significant threat to the global aquaculture industry. Thus, accurate and timely diagnosis is paramount for sustainable management of fish health.

Red sea bream iridovirus infection downregulates inflammation‐related genes in the spleen of rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus)

Journal of Fish Diseases, 2023
AbstractThis study investigated the kinetics of red sea bream iridovirus and host gene expression during infection in rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus), a species highly sensitive to the virus. After intraperitoneal injection of the viral solution at 104 TCID50/fish, the viral genome copy number in the spleen was 104.7 ± 0.2 and 105.9 ± 0.4 copies/μg ...

Iridovirus Infection of Cultured Red Sea Bream, Pagrus major.

Fish Pathology, 1992

Persistently betanodavirus-infected barramundi (Lates calcarifer) exhibit resistances to red sea bream iridovirus infection

Developmental & Comparative Immunology, 2013
Nervous necrosis virus (NNV) and red sea bream iridovirus (RSIV) are two important pathogens that have caused acute, highly contagious, and widespread diseases among wild and cultured fish, especially at larval and juvenile stages. We discovered that the pathogenicity of NNV to the 80 days post-hatch (dph) barramundi is lower than that to the 14 dph ...

A natural infection by the red sea bream iridovirus‐type Megalocytivirus in the golden mandarin fish Siniperca scherzeri

Journal of Fish Diseases, 2018
AbstractAn outbreak of a Megalocytivirus infection was found in the golden mandarin fish Siniperca scherzeri during September and October 2016, in Korea. Phylogeny and genetic diversity based on the major capsid protein (MCP) and adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) genes showed a new strain.
