Microfluidic redox battery

Lab on a Chip, 2013
A miniaturized microfluidic battery is proposed, which is the first membraneless redox battery demonstrated to date. This unique concept capitalizes on dual-pass flow-through porous electrodes combined with stratified, co-laminar flow to generate electrical power on-chip.

Redox regulation: an introduction

Physiologia Plantarum, 2004
The redox‐state is a critical determinate of cell function, and any major imbalances can cause severe damage or death. The cellular redox status therefore needs to be sensed and modulated before such imbalances occur. Various redox‐active components are involved in these processes, including thioredoxins, glutaredoxins and other thiol/disulphide ...

Redox control in actinobacteria

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 2008
As most actinobacteria are obligate aerobes, they have to cope with endogenously generated reactive oxygen species, and actinobacterial pathogens have to resist oxidative attack by phagocytes. Actinobacteria also have to survive long periods under low oxygen tension; for example, Mycobacterium tuberculosis can persist in the host for years under ...

Redox-signalling and Redox Biomarkers in Cardiovascular Health and Disease

Cardiovascular & Hematological Agents in Medicinal Chemistry
Overproduction of reactive nitrogen and oxygen species (RNS and ROS) has been linked to the pathogenesis of diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, stroke, angina, and other cardiovascular diseases. These species are produced in part by the mitochondrial respiratory chain, NADPH oxidase, and xanthine oxidase.

Peroxiredoxins: Antioxidant Activity, Redox Relays, and Redox Signaling

Biochemistry
Peroxiredoxins (Prdxs) are thiol proteins that function both as antioxidants and as regulators of cell signaling. This article focuses on the biological chemistry of mammalian typical 2-Cys Prdxs and how their molecular properties relate to cellular function.
