Anion specificity of the jejunal folate carrier: Effects of reduced folate analogues on folate uptake and efflux

The Journal of Membrane Biology, 1988
We previously reported that 3H-folate uptake by rabbit jejunal brush-border membrane (BBM) vesicles was markedly stimulated by an outwardly directed OH- gradient (pHin 7.7, pHout 5.5), inhibited by anion exchange inhibitors (DIDS, SITS, furosemide), and saturable (folate Km = 0.19 microM) suggesting carrier-mediated folate/OH- exchange (or H+/folate ...

Reduced folate carrier-1 G80a gene polymorphism is associated with neuroblastoma’s development

Molecular Biology Reports, 2014
Neuroblastoma is a malignant embryonal tumor of neural crest cells that give rise to the sympathetic nervous system, responsible for 10-70% of all cases of childhood cancer. Because of its early appearance, it has been suggested that risk factors active in the prenatal can be associated with the pathogenesis of neuroblastoma.

Reduced folate carrier polymorphisms and neural tube defect risk

Molecular Genetics and Metabolism, 2006
The reduced folate carrier (RFCI) is essential for folate transport into cells. Low folate is an important cause of neural tube defects (NTDs), and a single-nucleotide polymorphism (H27R) (80G-->A) in the RFCI gene has been reported to be a NTD risk factor.

Role of reduced folate carrier in intestinal folate uptake

American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 2006
Studies from our laboratory and others have characterized different aspects of the intestinal folate uptake process and have shown that the reduced folate carrier (RFC) is expressed in the gut and plays a role in the uptake process. Little, however, is known about the actual contribution of the RFC system toward total folate uptake by the enterocytes.

Polymorphism of reduced folate carrier 1 (A80G) and non-syndromic cleft lip/palate: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Archives of Oral Biology, 2019
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the association between polymorphism of reduced folate carrier 1 (RFC1) A80 G in infants and the risk of non-syndromic cleft lip/palate (NSCL/P), in a meta-analysis of case-control studies.

Reduced folate carrier‐mediated methotrexate transport in human distal lung epithelial NCl‐H441 cells

The Journal of pharmacy and pharmacology, 2018
We had previously found that reduced folate carrier (RFC; SLC19A1) is mainly involved in an influx of transport of methotrexate (MTX), a folate analogue, using alveolar epithelial A549 cells.

Functional Characterization of Reduced Folate Carrier and Protein-Coupled Folate Transporter for Antifolates Accumulation in Non–Small Cell Lung Cancer Cells

Drug Metabolism And Disposition
Antifolates are important for chemotherapy in non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). They mainly rely on reduced folate carrier (RFC) and proton-coupled folate transporter (PCFT) to enter cells.

Structure and organization of the human reduced folate carrier gene

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1998
The human reduced folate carrier gene was found to contain 7 exons, including two alternative non-coding exons (exons 1 and 2), spanning approximately 29 kb. Two transcript variants involving exon 7 were detected in K562 cells by RT-PCR, distinguishable from the wild-type transcript by deletions of 625 bp (KS32) and 988 bp (KS1).
