Oral Dosed Organo‐Silica Nanoparticles Restore Glucose Homeostasis and β‐Cell Function in Diabetes Rats

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An oral nanoplatform, MOP@T@D, which can maintain glucose homeostasis and restore islet β cells in diabetic rats is developed. It achieves efficient intestinal absorption and liver‐targeted delivery. The nanoparticle disintegrates only in response to hyperglycemia to release insulin on demand and provides antioxidant protection through selenoprotein ...

Activation of HMG-CoA reductase by microsomal phosphatase

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1983
HMG-CoA reductase activity can be modulated by a reversible phosphorylation-dephosphorylation with the phosphorylated form of the enzyme being inactive and the dephosphorylated form, active. Phosphatases from diverse sources, including cytosol, have been

Selenite reduction by Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 is mediated by fumarate reductase in periplasm

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2014
In situ reduction of selenite to elemental selenium (Se(0)), by microorganisms in sediments and soils is an important process and greatly affects the environmental distribution and the biological effects of selenium.

Novel 3D‐Printed Biophotonic Scaffold Displaying Luminescence under Near‐Infrared Light for Photopharmacological Activation and Biological Signaling Compound Release

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Despite significant efforts in developing novel biomaterials to regenerate tissue, only a few of them have successfully reached clinical use. It has become clear that the next generation of biomaterials must be multifunctional. Smart biomaterials can respond to environmental or external stimuli, interact in a spatial‐temporal manner, and trigger ...

Genome-wide analysis of OPR family genes in Vitis vinifera and the role of VvOPR1 in copper, zinc tolerance

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
12-oxo-phytodienoic acid reductase (OPR) is one of the key enzymes in the octadecanoid pathway, and it controls the last step of jasmonic acid (JA) biosynthesis.

Regulation of hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase in rat leukocytes

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1977
Methods were developed for the assay of hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase (NADPH) activity in microsomes from rat leukocytes. The activity in freshly isolated leukocytes is low compared to rat liver but can be assayed reliably. The patterns of response

Export of honeybee prepromelittin in Escherichia coli depends on the membrane potential but does not depend on proteins secA and secY [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Honeybee prepromelittin (70 amino acid residues), the precursor of an eukaryotic secretory protein, and a hybrid protein between prepromelittin and mouse dihydrofolate reductase (257 amino acid residues) were expressed in Escherichia coli and ...

Metallofullerenol Sc3N@C80(OH)18: A New Generation Radioprotector Protecting Human Erythrocytes Against Multiple Biochemical Damage Modes Upon Gamma Irradiation, Identifying It as a Scavenger of Short‐ and Long‐Lived Radicals

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Metallofullerenol Sc3N@C80(OH)18 demonstrates strong radioprotective properties as a scavenger of both short‐ and long‐lived radicals. The study reveals protection of human erythrocytes from γ‐radiation–induced biochemical damage via post‐irradiation removal of primary and secondary reactive oxidants, supported by pulse radiolysis kinetics.

Partial purification from rat liver microsomes of three native protein phosphatases with activity towards HMG-CoA reductase.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1984
A procedure for the isolation and partial purification of three hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase phosphatases in their native high molecular weight form from rat liver microsomes is described for the first time.
