Reductive Dechlorination of Chlorinated Aromatics

Synthetic Communications, 1993
Abstract A practical method has been found for the reduction of PCB's and chlorinated benzenes in a nonpolar solvent with formic acid, water, Pd/C and sodium carbonate. This reductive dechlorination can be run under atmospheric pressure and relatively mild conditions.

Groundwater geochemical constituents controlling the reductive dechlorination of TCE by nZVI: Evidence from diverse anaerobic corrosion mechanisms of nZVI.

Chemosphere, 2020
The corrosion mechanisms of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) vary with different geochemical constituents, which affect the reductive dechlorination process of trichloroethylene (TCE).

Reductive dechlorination of DDT by haem proteins

Bioinorganic Chemistry, 1977
DDT1 is converted to DDD by reduced myoglobin (rapidly), cytochrome c oxidase, and a haem-containing undecapeptide derived from cytochrome c. Cytochrome c itself is inactive. This demonstrates that an accessible haem site is necessary for the reaction. Spectrophotometric evidence is presented for an interaction between DDT and the undecapeptide.

Reductive dechlorination for remediation of polychlorinated biphenyls

Chemosphere, 2012
Technologies such as thermal, oxidative, reductive, and microbial methods for the remediation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have previously been reviewed. Based on energy consumption, formation of PCDD/F, and remediation efficiency, reductive methods have emerged as being advantageous for remediation of PCBs.

Effects of non-reducible dissolved solutes on reductive dechlorination of trichloroethylene by ball milled zero valent irons.

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2020
Non-reducible solution anions have been well recognized to affect reactivity of ZVI in dechlorinating chlorinated hydrocarbons. However, their effects and corresponding functional mechanisms on electron efficiency (εe) of ZVI remain unclear.

Reductive dechlorination of atrazine catalyzed by metalloporphyrins

Chemosphere, 2009
Atrazine (2-chloro-4-(ethylamine)-6-(isopropylamine)-s-triazine) is a widely used herbicide which is considered a persistent groundwater contaminant. Its selective transformation mediated by cobalt or nickel porphyrins was studied in aqueous solutions at room temperature and ambient pressure. Several metalloporphyrins were examined as catalysts for the

How Pseudomonas conducts reductive dechlorination of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol: Insights into metabolic performance and organohalide respiration process.

Water Research
Organohalide-respiring bacteria (OHRB) play a key role in facilitating the detoxification of halogenated organics, but their slow growth and harsh growth conditions often limit their application in field remediation.

Reductive Dechlorination of DDT by Heated Liver

Nature New Biology, 1972
DDT undergoes reductive dechlorination in vertebrate liver after death and in liver preparations incubated in anaerobic conditions. The product, DDD, p, p′-dichlorodiphenyldichloro-ethane, is an important environmental pollutant and has been found in tissues of many animals1, including human liver2.

Metabolic Synergy of Dehalococcoides Populations Leading to Greater Reductive Dechlorination of Polychlorinated Biphenyls.

Environmental Science and Technology
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are dioxin-like pollutants that cause persistent harm to life. Organohalide-respiring bacteria (OHRB) can detoxify PCBs via reductive dechlorination, but individual OHRB are potent in dechlorinating only specific PCB ...
