Refinable Functions: Positivity and Interpolation
Analysis and Applications, 2003This paper examines two properties of refinable functions. The first provides conditions under which a refinable function is strictly positive and the other presents a conjecture about cardinal interpolation by refinable functions. The conjecture is supported by some analysis and also computation.

SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1998
Dependence of properties of refinable function vectors on their refinement masks is studied. In particular, necessary and sufficient conditions for the convergence of cascade algorithms, for the stability and orthonormality of refinable vectors are found.

Approximation by Multiple Refinable Functions
Canadian Journal of Mathematics, 1997AbstractWe consider the shift-invariant space, š(Φ), generated by a set Φ = {Φ1,..., Φr} of compactly supported distributions on R when the vector of distributions Ļ:= {Φ1,..., Φr} T satisfies a system of refinement equations expressed in matrix form aswhere a is a finitely supported sequence of r x r matrices of complex numbers.

Capabilities, Functionings and Refined Functionings
Journal of Human Development, 2006Sen's theory of capabilities is often presented as more comprehensive than an approach in terms of achievements (functionings) because it takes account of freedom and it contains at least as much information. This paper questions the last argument and argues that both kinds of consideration (freedom, comprehensive information) justify an approach in ...

Multiwavelet Frames from Refinable Function Vectors
Advances in Computational Mathematics, 2003A \(d\)-refinable function vector \(\phi = (\phi_1, \ldots, \phi_r)^T\) satisfies the refinement equation \[ \phi = | d| \sum_{k \in {\mathbb Z}} a_k \phi(d\cdot - k), \] where \(r\) is the multiplicity, \(d\) the dilation factor, and \(a\) is the finitely supported sequence of \(r\times r\) matrices.

Affine similarity of refinable functions
Approximation Theory and its Applications, 1999Let \(M \geq 2\) be an integer, and let \(\varphi\) be a compactly supported function on \(R\) with total mass 1 and which satisfies the refinement equation \[ \varphi(x) = \sum_{j=0}^N c_j \varphi(Mx - j) \] for some coefficients \(c_j\). For each \(0 \leq l < M\), assume that the matrices with entries \(c_{Mi-j+l}\) for \(0 \leq i,j < N/(M-1)\) are ...

REFINED INSTANTON COUNTING AND MACDONALD FUNCTIONS
International Journal of Modern Physics A, 2008We argue that the Nekrasov's partition function with two equivariant parameters is reproduced by the method of topological vertex, if we introduce a refined version of the vertex. Our refined topological vertex is expressed in terms the specialization of the Macdonald functions which is related to the equivariant character of the Hilbert scheme of ā2 ...
