A Dynamic Atomistic-Continuum Method for the Simulation of Crystalline Materials

open access: yes, 2001
We present a coupled atomistic-continuum method for the modeling of defects and interface dynamics of crystalline materials. The method uses atomistic models such as molecular dynamics near defects and interfaces, and continuum models away from defects ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Twice-Two: Hegel’s Comic Redoubling of Being and Nothing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Following Freud’s analysis of the fragile line between the uncanny double and its comic redoubling, I identify the doubling of the double found in critical moments of Hegelian dialectic as producing a kind of comic effect.

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

Crack Width Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Using FBG Sensor

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2019
According to the reflection behavior of the fiber Bragg grating, the monitoring method of reinforced concrete was presented in this paper. A postprocessing method to extract crack openings from a three-dimension finite element computation was proposed ...

Analysis of an atomistic model for anti-plane fracture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We develop a model for an anti-plane crack defect posed on a square lattice under an interatomic pair-potential with nearest-neighbour interactions. In particular, we establish existence, local uniqueness and stability of solutions for small loading ...

Multiple wavemode scanning for near and far-side defect characterisation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The combination of ultrasonic inspections using different wavemodes can give more information than is available with single mode inspection. In this work, the response of shear and Rayleigh waves to surface-breaking defects propagating on the near-side ...

Laboratory characterization of temperature induced reflection cracks

open access: yesJournal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering (English Edition), 2020
A hot-mix asphalt (HMA) overlay is one of the primary strategy for rehabilitating existing HMA pavements and Portland cement concrete (PCC) pavements. The current design program, FAARFIELD, does not address reflective cracking for asphalt-overlaid concrete pavements due to its mechanism complexity.

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.
