The 'New Math' reform and pedagogical flows in Hungarian and French mathematics education

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, I present my PhD research (in progress) focusing on the mathematical reform movements of Hungary and France in the 1960s and ’70s and their origins: especially how much they were influenced by the international “New Math” movement, and by the mathematical and mathematics education traditions of these countries.

Using Thermodynamics and Microstructure to Mitigate Overfitting in Pellet Reduction Models

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
A in time and space discretized, thermodynamically sound model for direct reduction of iron oxide pellets is described. The number of fitting parameters is drastically reduced compared to existing models. Nevertheless, fitting kinetic parameters based on conversion degree data alone leads to overfitting, which can be mitigated by correlating the ...

Investigating the Iron‐Steam Process for Coupling With SOEC and SOFC: A Step Toward Integrated Hydrogen and Electricity Storage

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Fixed‐bed reactor experiments (10 L) validate the iron–steam redox process, bridging material‐scale research and industrial power‐to‐power applications. Coupled with SOEC/SOFC systems, this framework defines critical interfaces for heat and gas management. Results confirm reproducible hydrogen storage and release, demonstrating technical feasibility at

Prompts or Protocol: Supporting Elementary Science Teacher Candidates to Notice Students' Resources During Video Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Research in Science Teaching, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Science education has shifted from a focus on canonical correctness toward students and their sensemaking. In response, teacher educators have explored video analysis as an activity for helping teacher candidates (TCs) notice students and their resources.

Supporting Pathways into College and Careers: The Case of Adult Education ESL in Community Colleges

open access: yesTESOL Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract Research has increasingly focused on the importance of college preparation and career and technical education (CTE) for multilingual learners (MLs), many of them classified as “English Learners,” in K‐12 schools. Less attention, however, has been paid to the collegiate and professional aspirations of another significant population of MLs in ...

Madrasa Ideologies of English in Bangladesh: Questioning ELT‐Aid and Post‐9/11 De‐Islamization

open access: yesTESOL Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract External donors increasingly promote English as a notionally value‐neutral language of socioeconomic advancements in the Muslim South, overlooking local ideological diversities. Furthermore, national and Western forces deploy English as a tool to de‐Islamize madrasas (Islamic educational institutes) in the post‐9/11 world for global peace ...
