Evaluation of basal ganglia haemodynamic changes with perfusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging in patients with Parkinson's disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The aim of our study was to assess the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) of basal ganglia and thalami in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) using perfusion–weighted magnetic resonance imaging (PW–MRI)

The MSA Atrophy Index (MSA‐AI): An Imaging Marker for Diagnosis and Clinical Progression in Multiple System Atrophy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Reliable biomarkers are essential for tracking disease progression and advancing treatments for multiple system atrophy (MSA). In this study, we propose the MSA Atrophy Index (MSA‐AI), a novel composite volumetric measure to distinguish MSA from related disorders and monitor disease progression. Methods Seventeen participants with an

Sex Differences in Regional Cerebral Blood Flow [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism, 1988
Regional cerebral blood flow was measured by the 133-xenon inhalation method during resting in 38 healthy men and 38 healthy women matched pairwise for age in the range 18–72 years. The results showed 11% higher global flow level in the women in all ages. A similar and significant regression of flow by age was seen for both sexes.

Simulation study of brain blood flow regulation by intra-cortical arterioles in an anatomically accurate large human vascular network. Part II: Flow variations induced by global or localized modifications of arteriolar diameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In a companion paper (Lorthois et al., Neuroimage, inpress),we perform the first simulations of blood flow in an anatomically accurate large human intra-cortical vascular network (~10000 segments), using a 1D non-linear model taking into account the ...

Understanding Mechanisms of Whole Brain and Regional Grey Matter Atrophy in Children With MOGAD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To investigate the mechanisms driving whole brain and regional grey matter (GM) volume changes along with their clinical correlates in paediatric myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody (MOG‐Ab)–associated disease (MOGAD). Methods One‐hundred‐nine paediatric MOGAD patients from two UK centres underwent MRI at attack nadir and ...

Systemic hemodynamic and regional circulatory effects of centrally administered endothelin-1 are mediated through ETA receptors [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Central endothelin (ET) has been implicated in the regulation of the cardiovascular system. The effect of intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) administration of ET-1 or IRL 1620 (5, 15 and 45 ng) on the systemic hemodynamics and regional circulation was ...

Forskolin Enhances Urokinase Plasminogen Activator Secretion and Angiogenic Activity of Xeno‐Free Cultures of Human Adipose Tissue‐Derived Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The regenerative potential of adipose tissue‐derived stem cells can be enhanced through chemical stimulation in vitro. A short stimulation protocol using forskolin, either alone or in combination with other growth factors, under xeno‐free conditions enhanced the pro‐angiogenic responses in human ASCs.

Altered interictal cerebral blood flow in generalized tonic-clonic seizure: an arterial spin labeling based MRI study

open access: yesChinese Journal of Contemporary Neurology and Neurosurgery, 2011
Objective To study the alteration of interictal cerebral blood flow (CBF) of patients with generalized tonic-clonic seizure (GTCS) by pulsed arterial spin labeling (PASL), and uncover the neuropathophysiological mechanism of GTCS.
