Magnetic fields and the location of the PDR [PDF]

open access: yesEASPubl.Ser.31:53-56,2008, 2008
I review recent studies of the emission-line regions in Orion and M17. Both have similar geometries, a bubble of hot shocked gas surrounding the central star cluster, with H^+, H^0, and H_2 regions, often referred to as H II regions, PDRs, and molecular clouds, forming successive shells on the surface of a molecular cloud.

Towards an entrepreneurial ecosystem typology for regional economic development: the role of creative class and entrepreneurship

open access: yesRegional studies, 2021
Who drives regional economic development in entrepreneurial ecosystems of different types? Using longitudinal data on 267 NUTS-3 European regions during the period 2008–16, we apply the entrepreneurial ecosystem theoretical framework to study how ...

Circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors – a biomarker analysis of the ALICE and ICON trials

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

Regional resentment in the Netherlands: A rural or peripheral phenomenon?

open access: yesRegional studies, 2022
We study ‘regional resentment’, or the feeling that one’s region is not treated rightly by citizens and elites from other regions, in a European context. Is this mainly a rural or a peripheral phenomenon, or do these two contextual characteristics matter

On‐treatment dynamics of circulating extracellular vesicles in the first‐line setting of patients with advanced non‐small cell lung cancer: the LEXOVE prospective study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LEXOVE prospective study evaluated plasma cell‐free extracellular vesicle (cfEV) dynamics using Bradford assay and dynamic light scattering in metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer patients undergoing first‐line treatments, correlating a ∆cfEV < 20% with improved median progression‐free survival in responders versus non‐responders.

Integrative systems‐level analysis reveals a contextual crosstalk between hypoxia and global metabolism in human breast tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast tumor samples scored for metabolic deregulation (M1 to M3) were given a hypoxia score (HS). The highest HS occurred in patients with strongest metabolic deregulation (M3), supporting tumor aggressiveness. HS correlated with the highest number of metabolic pathways in M1. This suggests hypoxia to be an early event in metabolic deregulation.

Global and regional hearing impairment prevalence: an analysis of 42 studies in 29 countries.

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Public Health, 2013
BACKGROUND Hearing impairment is a leading cause of disease burden, yet population-based studies that measure hearing impairment are rare. We estimate regional and global hearing impairment prevalence from sparse data and calculate corresponding ...

Impact of molecular diagnostics and targeted cancer therapy on patient outcomes (MODIFY): a retrospective study of the implementation of precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors conducted a retrospective study of 94 patients with advanced cancer who underwent next‐generation sequencing (NGS) gene panel analysis and received targeted treatments when applicable. Results further support evidence indicating that molecular profiling provides clinical benefit.
