Effective field theory in light of relative entropy

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
We study constraints on the effective field theory (EFT) from the relative entropy between two theories: we refer to these as target and reference theories.

Remainder Terms for Some Quantum Entropy Inequalities

open access: yes, 2014
We consider three von Neumann entropy inequalities: subadditivity; Pinsker's inequality for relative entropy; and the monotonicity of relative entropy.

Measures of maximal relative entropy [PDF]

open access: yesErgodic Theory and Dynamical Systems, 2003
Given an irreducible subshift of finite type X, a subshift Y, a factor map π: X \to Y, and an ergodic invariant measure νon Y, there can exist more than one ergodic measure on X which projects to νand has maximal entropy among all measures in the fiber, but there is an explicit bound on the number of such maximal entropy preimages.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

An information fractal dimensional relative entropy

open access: yesAIP Advances
Shannon entropy is used to measure information uncertainty, while the information dimension is used to measure information complexity. Given two probability distributions, the difference can be measured by relative entropy. However, the existing relative

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Computational relative entropy

open access: yes
Our capacity to process information depends on the computational power at our disposal. Information theory captures our ability to distinguish states or communicate messages when it is unconstrained with unrivaled beauty and elegance. For computationally bounded observers the situation is quite different -- they can, for example, be fooled to believe ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Crofton Risk and Relative Transactional Entropy

open access: yesEntropy
We develop a geometric approach to financial risk based on Crofton’s idea and the tools of the Radon transform. The trajectory of a financial instrument is defined with respect to a frame of reference (money, benchmark).
