A Thermodynamic 3D Model for the Simulation of Diffusion‐Controlled Alloying Processes in Heterogeneous Material Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical model resulting from irreversible thermodynamics for describing transport processes is introduced, focusing on thermodynamic activity gradients as the actual driving force for diffusion. Implemented in CUDA C++ and using CalPhaD methods for determining the necessary activity data, the model accurately simulates interdiffusion in aluminum ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Comments on Relativized Minimality

Studies in Natural Language and Linguistic Theory, 1996
Minimality, the idea that government of an element can be blocked by an intervening governor, is simple and intuitively appealing; it is apparently of great utility in accounting for a wide variety of phenomena; and it has been very difficult to formulate in a manner that rules out all the relevant cases where government should be blocked while ...

Object extraction is not subject to Child Relativized Minimality

Lingua, 2010
Abstract Friedmann et al. (2009) propose that the grammar of three–five-year-old children imposes a stricter version of Relativized Minimality that the adult grammar does. This allows them to explain several experimental findings, including the difficulty children have in comprehending object relative clauses when the subject of the relative is a ...

Parameterizing subject–verb inversion across Verb Second languages

2020
By discussing novel data from two Dolomitic Ladin languages spoken in Northern Italy, Badiotto and Gardenese, it is shown that in these Verb Second languages subject-finite verb inversion is constrained by the syntactic (adverb or object) and discourse (focus or topic) nature of the sentence-initial constituent, and by the discourse status of the DP ...
