Development of a Self‐Management Theory‐Guided Discharge Intervention for Parents of Hospitalized Children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background Parents of hospitalized children, especially parents of children with complex and chronic health conditions, report not being adequately prepared for self‐management of their child\u27s care at home after discharge.

The Definition of Mach's Principle

open access: yes, 2010
Two definitions of Mach's principle are proposed. Both are related to gauge theory, are universal in scope and amount to formulations of causality that take into account the relational nature of position, time, and size.

SYM Correlators and the Maldacena Conjecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We report on progress in evaluating quantum filed theories with supersymmetric discrete light-cone quantization (SDLCQ). We compare the method to lattice gauge theory and point out its relevance for lattice calculations.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Free vs. Faithful – Towards Identifying the Relationship between Academic and Professional Criteria for Legal Translation

open access: yesELOPE, 2016
For many years translation theorists have discussed the degree of translational freedom a legal translator has in rendering the meaning of a legal source text in a translation.

Making Theory Relevant [PDF]

open access: yesTeaching Sociology, 2013
This article describes and evaluates the Gender Attitude and Belief Inventory (GABI), a teaching tool designed to aid students in (a) realizing how sociological theory links to their personal beliefs and (b) exploring any combination of 11 frequently used theoretical perspectives on gender, including both conservative theories (physiological ...

A RELEVANCE-THEORETIC ANALYSIS OF MUSTOFA BISRI’S POEM “SIAPAMENYURUH?” [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This article presents an interpretive study of “Siapa Menyuruh?”, a poem by Indonesia’s contemporary poet Mustofa Bisri. The study is carried out within the framework of Sperber and Wilson’s relevance theory (RT), which is based on the principles that ...

Supersymmetric Oscillator: Novel Symmetries

open access: yes, 2012
We discuss various continuous and discrete symmetries of the supersymmetric simple harmonic oscillator (SHO) in one (0 + 1)-dimension of spacetime and show their relevance in the context of mathematics of differential geometry. We show the existence of a
