A comparison of different indicators of chaos based on the deviation vectors. Application to symplectic mappings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The aim of this research work is to compare the reliability of several variational indicators of chaos on mappings. The Lyapunov Indicator (LI); the Mean Exponential Growth factor of Nearby Orbits (MEGNO); the Smaller Alignment Index (SALI); the Fast ...

SDI: is it a reliable fouling index?

open access: yesDesalination and Water Treatment, 2012
The ASTM considers the silt density index (SDI) test as a standard test for fouling potential of RO and NF feed waters. Up to date, the SDI is used at many full- and pilot-scale installations. The design and choice of the applied RO pretreatment is to a large extent based on the SDI test on the raw feed water.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Probabilistic Assessment of Soil Shear Strength Parameters Using Triaxial Test Results

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2007
According to the currently valid standards, bearing resistance can be calculated applying direct informationalstatistic method which includes probabilistic models of margin of resistance Z = R – E.

Nicotinamide N‐methyltransferase promotes drug resistance in lung cancer, as revealed by nascent proteomic profiling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
AZD9291 has shown promise in targeted cancer therapy but is limited by resistance. In this study, we employed metabolic labeling and LC–MS/MS to profile time‐resolved nascent protein perturbations, allowing dynamic tracking of drug‐responsive proteins. We demonstrated that increased NNMT expression is associated with drug resistance, highlighting NNMT ...

On the Computation of EXIT Characteristics for Symbol-Based Iterative Decoding

open access: yes, 2006
In this paper we propose an efficient method for computing index-based extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) charts, which are useful for estimating the convergence properties of non-binary iterative decoding.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

New silicon photonics integration platform enabled by novel micron-scale bends

open access: yes, 2013
Even though submicron silicon waveguides have been proposed for dense integration of photonic devices, to date the lightwave circuits on the market mainly rely on waveguides with micron-scale core dimensions.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.
