Magnetic bearing as Switched Reluctance Motor - feasibility study for bearingless Switched Reluctance Motor

2013 International Electric Machines & Drives Conference, 2013
This paper shows a general review of Switched Reluctance Motors (SRM), reports the conversion of Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) to SRM and discusses methods to estimate the torque produced in SRM. AMB converted to SRM has been tested on a laboratory scale test rig and its torque production measured.

Technology comparison of induction motor and synchronous reluctance motor

IECON 2017 - 43rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2017
Electric motors play an important role in global efforts to reduce energy consumption as they account for almost half of the total electrical energy usage in the world. The energy consumption of electric motors can be reduced by using more efficient motors and by applying frequency converters to feed the motors, thereby enabling accurate control ...

Switched Reluctance Motor

2020
The dynamical model is derived. The proposed control scheme is designed in original coordinates, i.e., a transformation such as dq is not required in this case. We solve the velocity control problem and the position control problem without velocity measurements.

A robust observer for switched-reluctance motors

2014 American Control Conference, 2014
We present a simple state observer for switched reluctance motors using stator currents. The estimation error dynamics is showed to be input-to-state stable with respect to (current, velocity and angular position) tracking errors as well as relative to load-torque compensation mismatch.

Robust control of a variable reluctance motor

Proceedings IROS '91:IEEE/RSJ International Workshop on Intelligent Robots and Systems '91, 2002
A direct drive variable reluctance motor for robotic applications is considered. A cascade control structure is adopted, with an inner torque loop and an outer velocity loop. The inner loop consists of a static torque precompensator transforming the torque control problem into a current or flux control one.

Switched reluctance motors

Proceedings:Electrical Electronics Insulation Conference and Electrical Manufacturing & Coil Winding Conference, 2002
Motor design engineers have long been searching for a solution to their drive application problems which is low cost, reliable, versatile in application, fault tolerant and quiet. The motor design which was most likely to achieve that coveted position for several years was the switched reluctance motor (SRM).

Improving transient performance of reluctance motors

IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 1989
Reluctance motors have a wide range of industrial applications. This is due to speed constancy and reliability in operation, as it is connected directly to the AC supply and operated at synchronous speed. Steady-state performance of this type of motors is extensively examined to get high output torque, improved power factor and extended stable region ...

A switched-reluctance motor for aerospace application

2014 International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM), 2014
This paper presents a five-phase switched reluctance motor designed to satisfy the requirements of flap actuators in medium size aircrafts. In normal operation the machine operates with two-phases conducting simultaneously but it is designed to satisfy the load specifications also with one or two phases faulted.

Stability of Reluctance Motors

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1972
Stability criteria for reluctance motors are derived in terms of machine parameters, voltage, applied frequency, inertia, etc. Simplified equations are found that enable physical interpretation of the causes of instability.

A Novel Multilayer Switched Reluctance Motor

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 2002
The switched reluctance motor is a simple and robust machine, which has found application over wide power and speed ranges in different shapes and geometries. This paper introduces a new configuration for a high starting torque switched reluctance motor (SRM).
