Functional results following surgical repair of post-traumatic hand tendon injuries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Introduction: The study aims to determine whether early physical therapy following hand tendon repair gives better results and to look at any possible limiting factors locally.

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Structural and biochemical analysis of the UvrA binding module of the bacterial transcription repair coupling factor Mfd [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The Mfd (mutation frequency decline) protein is responsible for connecting the cellular processes of transcription and DNA repair in bacteria. Mfd, also termed transcription-repair coupling factor (TRCF), recognizes arrested transcription elongation ...

ERCC1 expression and RAD51B activity correlate with cell cycle response to platinum drug treatment not DNA repair [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: The H69CIS200 and H69OX400 cell lines are novel models of low-level platinum-drug resistance. Resistance was not associated with increased cellular glutathione or decreased accumulation of platinum, rather the resistant cell lines have a cell

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

A Genome-Wide Analysis Reveals Significant Overlap of Transcription and DNA Repair in Stationary Phase Yeast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The association between transcription and DNA repair is acknowledged as a player in the generation of mutations in a non-random fashion in prokaryotes and eukaryotes.

A function of thymine DNA glycosylase-initiated DNA repair in maintaining epigenome stability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The Thymine DNA Glycosylase (TDG) was initially discovered by its ability to excise the deamination products of cytosine and 5-methylcytosine (5-mC), and therefore thought to initiate base excision repair (BER) of the resulting G•U and G•T mismatches.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Placement of an aortomonoiliac stent graft without femorofemoral revascularization in endovascular aneurysm repair: a case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Introduction: Endovascular aortic repair, if technically feasible, is the treatment of choice for patients with a contained ruptured aortic aneurysm who are unfit for open surgery. Case presentation: We report the case of an 80-year-old Caucasian man who
