The initiation of mitochondrial DNA replication

open access: yesBiochemical Society Transactions
Mitochondrial DNA replication is initiated by the transcription of mitochondrial RNA polymerase (mtRNAP), as mitochondria lack a dedicated primase. However, the mechanism determining the switch between continuous transcription and premature termination to generate RNA primers for mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) replication remains unclear.

Replication Initiatives in Psychology

open access: yes, 2018
Replication is one key component towards a robust cumulative knowledge base. It plays a critical function in assessing the stability of the scientific literature. Replication involves closely repeating the procedure of a study and determining if the results are similar to the original.

High Osmolarity Modulates Bacterial Cell Size through Reducing Initiation Volume in Escherichia coli

open access: yesmSphere, 2018
Bacterial cell size is closely associated with biomass growth and cell cycle progression, including chromosome replication and cell division. It is generally proposed that Escherichia coli cells tightly control the timing of chromosome replication ...

Accurate Identification of DNA Replication Origin by Fusing Epigenomics and Chromatin Interaction Information

open access: yesResearch, 2022
DNA replication initiation is a complex process involving various genetic and epigenomic signatures. The correct identification of replication origins (ORIs) could provide important clues for the study of a variety of diseases caused by replication. Here,

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

Functional characterization of a replication initiator protein [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1993
Functional domains in the RepI replication initiator protein have been identified by classical and site-directed mutagenesis techniques. Mutations conferring an increase in plasmid copy number contained alterations in a key position of a putative helix-turn-helix DNA binding motif.

FMDV replicons encoding green fluorescent protein are replication competent [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The study of replication of viruses that require high bio-secure facilities can be accomplished with less stringent containment using non-infectious 'replicon' systems. The FMDV replicon system (pT7rep) reported by Mclnerney et al. (2000) was modified by

Leishmania major chromosomes are replicated from a single high-efficiency locus supplemented by thousands of lower efficiency initiation events

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: DNA replication initiates at genome sites termed origins. Previous origin mapping approaches in the populations of the protozoan parasite Leishmania major were discordant, suggesting either a single origin per chromosome or 200-fold more origins.

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Differential Requirements for MCM Proteins in DNA Replication in Drosophila S2 Cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
BACKGROUND: The MCM2-7 proteins are crucial components of the pre replication complex (preRC) in eukaryotes. Since they are significantly more abundant than other preRC components, we were interested in determining whether the entire cellular content was
