Neonatal exposure to xenoestrogens impairs the ovarian response to gonadotropin treatment in lambs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Bisphenol A (BPA) and diethylstilbestrol (DES) are xenoestrogens which have been associated with altered effects on reproduction. We hypothesized that neonatal xenoestrogen exposure affects the ovarian functionality in lambs.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Reproductive Biology of Calamus Manan Miquel [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Adopting a plant improvement programme that combines silviculture and genetic improvement could increase yields of Calamus manan plantations. The silviculture of C. manan is well studied but not on the aspects of genetic improvement.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Spawning Sites of Depik, Rasbora Tawarensis (Teleostei, Cyprinidae) in Lake Laut Tawar, Indonesia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Depik, Rasbora tawarensis is an endemic species in Lake Laut Tawar, Indonesia, and this species has been listed as threatened species. Reproductive biology data is one of the important information to strategise conservation plan.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Uterine cyclin A2–deficient mice as a model of female early pregnancy loss

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Investigation
Proper action of the female sex steroids 17β-estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) on the endometrium is essential for fertility. Beyond its role in regulating the cell cycle, cyclin A2 (CCNA2) also mediates E2 and P4 signaling in vitro, but a potential ...

STOX1 deficiency is associated with renin-mediated gestational hypertension and placental defects

open access: yesJCI Insight, 2021
The pathogenesis of preeclampsia and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy remains poorly defined despite the substantial burden of maternal and neonatal morbidity associated with these conditions.
