Enhanced Detection of Residual Breast Cancer Post-Excisional Biopsy: Comparative Analysis of Contrast-Enhanced MRI with and Without Diffusion-Weighted Imaging

open access: yesTomography
Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of breast MRI, including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), in detecting residual lesions in patients with malignancy after excisional biopsy.

Current challenges in glioblastoma: intratumour heterogeneity, residual disease and models to predict disease recurrence

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2015
Glioblastoma (GB) is the most common malignant primary brain tumour, and despite the availability of chemotherapy and radiotherapy to combat the disease, overall survival remains low with a high incidence of tumour recurrence.

Effect of DFPP on Ferroptosis in Peripheral Blood CD14+ Monocytes of Hyperlipidemic Patients Involving the ACSL4/LPCAT3/ALOX5 Pathway

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Although statins are the cornerstone of lipid‐lowering therapy, their use may be limited in some patients by adverse effects. This study evaluated the possible impact of non‐drug treatment using double‐filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) on CD14+

Pathologic and immunohistochemical prognostic markers in residual triple-negative breast cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
BackgroundThe persistence of residual tumour after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in localised triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is known to have a negative prognostic value. However, different degrees of expression of some immunohistochemical markers

Minimal Residual Disease in Hematologic Disorders

open access: yesArchives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, 1999
Abstract In almost no other area of medical oncology has the introduction of new drugs, combinations of chemotherapeutic agents, and novel biologic treatments caused such dramatic responses as it has in the treatment of malignant hematologic disorders.

The Impact of Tenapanor on Body Composition and Blood Pressure in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients: A Pilot Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Instruction Tenapanor potentially affects fluid volume and blood pressure. This study explored its effects on these parameters in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). Methods We conducted a single‐arm, prospective observational study that enrolled 10 patients on PD with hyperphosphatemia who were newly initiated on tenapanor.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
