Metal Electromigration Induced by Solder Flux Residue in Hybrid Microcircuits

IEEE Transactions on Components, Hybrids, and Manufacturing Technology, 1988
Electrical failure due to excessive current-leakage was observed in a hybrid following burn-in. The current leakage was a result of extensive metal electromigration between substrate conductors, which has been correlated with flux residue in the device.

Investigation and Classification of the Reliability Impact of no Clean Flux Residue

Pan Pacific Symposium, 2023
ABSTRACT No Clean fluxes (NCFs) are processed on millions of electronic assemblies every year, leaving flux residues in various states of “cure,” on, in, and under critical components. NCF is utilized in many different applications, architectures, and package types.

Compatibility of Conformal Coatings with No Clean Flux Residue

Regional Events, 2014
ABSTRACT This paper is in English and Chinese languages. Conformal coating is often used in high reliability automotive applications where electronic circuits may be exposed to moisture or fluids used in cars or light trucks. Because of to the highly competitive nature of the automotive electronics industry, the cost

The Determination of Flux Residue Safety: The State of the Art

Circuit World, 1994
The need to use cleaning methods other than traditional CFC‐113 solvent for hi‐rel electronics imposes more rigid cleanliness testing. In the past, this was mainly limited to ionic contamination control, but this is probably insufficient by itself when using other methods. This paper discusses the various methods for which instrumentation is available,

Impact of tillage and residue management on soil heat flux

Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, 1997
The quantity and percent cover of a crop residue in no-tillage (NT) affects the transmission of radiation through the residue layer and alters soil heat flux compared with conventional moldboard tillage (CT). It has been shown that NT results in cold soil temperature and reduced germination.

Method of determining the residual fluxes in transformer core

2017 18th International Symposium on Electromagnetic Fields in Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (ISEF) Book of Abstracts, 2017
The article presents the method of calculating the residual induction in transformer columns. The method is based on measurement of the magnetic induction in selected points around the transformer core. The values of residual induction are calculated as linear combination of the results of measurement.

Residual Currents and Flux Estimates in a Partially-mixed Estuary

Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, 1998
Abstract An intensive sampling programme of physical parameters has been carried out at three representative areas to examine the variable circulation and mixing conditions in Southampton Water and the Test Estuary (Hampshire, southern England). Field data of current velocity and salinity were collected under neap and spring tidal cycles, and under ...

Removal of flux residues from highly dense assemblies

2012 35th IEEE/CPMT International Electronics Manufacturing Technology Conference (IEMT), 2012
Quality and reliability is a function of the manufacturing design that achieves repeatability and reproducibility. Designing advanced packages and assemblies is more difficult due to lead-free wetting and higher process temperature requirements. The associated manufacturing changes along with component miniaturization and board density increases ...

Residual Magnetic Flux in High Resistance Grounding System

2019 5th International Conference on Electric Power Equipment - Switching Technology (ICEPE-ST), 2019
When transformer is being energized a large magnetizing inrush current flows depending upon the closing phase of circuit breakers and the residual magnetic flux in the iron core. One of the suppressing the magnetizing inrush current method is to control closing phase of the circuit breaker.

Residual Flux in the Closed Magnetic Core of a Power Transformer

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2014
When a transformer is de-energized, the magnetic core material will contain a certain amount of residual magnetic flux. This flux may intensify saturation and lead to high transient in-rush current upon remagnetizing. This paper describes a novel method for analyzing and detecting the residual flux, based on the nonlinear magnetizing characteristics ...
