A New Lifetime Distribution with Decreasing and Upside-Down Bathtub-Shaped Hazard Rate Function

open access: yesStatistica, 2020
We introduce a new lifetime distribution, called the alpha-power transformed Lomax (APTL) distribution which generalizes the Lomax distribution to provide better fits than the Lomax distribution and some of its known generalizations.

Maximum-Likelihood Comparisons of Tully-Fisher and Redshift Data: Constraints on Omega and Biasing

open access: yes, 1996
We compare Tully-Fisher (TF) data for 838 galaxies within cz=3000 km/sec from the Mark III catalog to the peculiar velocity and density fields predicted from the 1.2 Jy IRAS redshift survey. Our goal is to test the relation between the galaxy density and

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The Exponentiated Gumbel Lomax Distribution: Properties and Applications

open access: yesStatistica
A new five-parameter distribution called exponentiated Gumbel Lomax (EGuL) is proposed and studied. The proposed distribution has reverse J-shaped, inverted bathtub-shaped and J-shaped hazard rate function making it suitable for modeling survival and ...

New Flexible Regression Models Generated by Gamma Random Variables with Censored Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We propose and study a new log-gamma Weibull regression model. We obtain explicit expressions for the raw and incomplete moments, quantile and generating functions and mean deviations of the log-gamma Weibull distribution.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Out of Sample Estimation for Small Areas using Area Level Data

open access: yes, 2005
A Fay-Herriot type model with independent area effects is often assumed when small area estimates based on area level data are required. However, under this approach out of sample areas are limited to synthetic estimates.

An estimating equations approach to fitting latent exposure models with longitudinal health outcomes

open access: yes, 2009
The analysis of data arising from environmental health studies which collect a large number of measures of exposure can benefit from using latent variable models to summarize exposure information. However, difficulties with estimation of model parameters

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Actuarial and various entropy measures for a new extended log Kumaraswamy model: Properties and applications

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
This article introduces a novel extension of the log Kumaraswamy distribution, termed Marshall Olkin log Kumaraswamy (MOLkw). The mathematical and statistical characteristics of the suggested distribution are constructed, encompassing explicit ...
