The Maximum Lq-Likelihood Method: an Application to Extreme Quantile Estimation in Finance [PDF]

open access: yes
Estimating financial risk is a critical issue for banks and insurance companies. Recently, quantile estimation based on Extreme Value Theory (EVT) has found a successful domain of application in such a context, outperforming other approaches.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Nonparametric frequency domain analysis of nonstationary multivariate time series [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We analyse the properties of nonparametric spectral estimates when applied to long memory and trending nonstationary multiple time series. We show that they estimate consistently a generalized or pseudo-spectral density matrix at frequencies both close ...

Maximum empirical likelihood estimation and related topics

open access: yes, 2018
This article develops a theory of maximum empirical likelihood estimation and empirical likelihood ratio testing with irregular and estimated constraint functions that parallels the theory for parametric models and is tailored for semiparametric models ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Edgeworth Expansion for the Whittle Maximum Likelihood Estimator of Linear Regression Processes with Long Memory Residuals

open access: yesInternational Journal of Statistics and Probability, 2021
We establish an Edgeworth expansion for the distribution of the Whittle maximum likelihood estimator of the parameter of a time series generated by a linear regression model with Gaussian, stationary, and long-memory residuals. This is done by imposing an extra condition on coefficients of the regression model in addition to the standard conditions ...

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Least-squares and maximum-likelihood in Computed Tomography

open access: yes, 2022
Statistical reconstruction methods in X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) are well-regarded for their ability to produce more accurate and artefact-free reconstructed volumes, in the presence of measurement noise.

The Exponentiated Gumbel Lomax Distribution: Properties and Applications

open access: yesStatistica
A new five-parameter distribution called exponentiated Gumbel Lomax (EGuL) is proposed and studied. The proposed distribution has reverse J-shaped, inverted bathtub-shaped and J-shaped hazard rate function making it suitable for modeling survival and ...
