The dynamic properties of compacted non-cohesive soils are desired not only because of the risk of natural sources of dynamic excitations such as earthquakes, but mostly because of the anthropogenic impact of machines that are working on such soils ...

Free-form microhemispherical shell resonators have the advantages of high quality factor and mass production. The shape of microhemispherical shells created via this process is based on a single mold and is difficult to adjust, which affects the resonant

Quantum Computation as a Dynamical Process [PDF]
In this paper, we discuss the dynamical issues of quantum computation. We demonstrate that fast wave function oscillations can affect the performance of Shor's quantum algorithm by destroying required quantum interference.

Macroscale signatures of crushing from resonant column tests [PDF]
The resonant column apparatus has been widely used to measure the dynamic properties of particulate geomaterials, and to describe their variation as a function of confining stress and strain.

Low-amplitude dynamic tests of fine gravel in a resonant column [PDF]
Construction of industrial and civil buildings, taking into account the dynamic effects on the foundations, requires special experiments on the mechanical properties of soils. This article presents the results of studying the dynamic properties of coarse

Parametric resonance in concrete beam-columns [PDF]
A dynamic instability, called parametric resonance, is exhibited by undampedelastic beam-columns when under the action of pulsating axial force. The scope of the existing theory of parametric resonance is restricted to physically linear beam-columns undergoing finite lateral displacements.

Cyclotron resonance in a pure electron plasma column [PDF]
We demonstrate experimentally the effects of plasma rotation and particle thermal velocities on cyclotron resonance in a long cylindrical pure electron plasma column of low density (ωp2≪ωc2). A single m=1 mode (eimθ-iωt) is found whose frequency ω is down-shifted from ωc=eB/me by an amount equal to the low-frequency diocotron mode frequency (〈ωp2〉/2ωc).

Laser induced breakdown of the magnetic field reversal symmetry in the propagation of unpolarized light [PDF]
We show how a medium, under the influece of a coherent control field which is resonant or close to resonance to an appropriate atomic transition, can lead to very strong asymmetries in the propagation of unpolarized light when the direction of the ...

To study the features of resonant oscillations in the water column of the Peter the Great Gulf of the Sea of Japan, in situ measurements were carried out on its shelf, combined with numerical simulation of these processes.

Resonance Tongue Interaction in the Parametrically Excited Column [PDF]
Summary: This paper concerns a codimension-two analysis of the interaction between various resonances that occur in an upright flexible rod subject to sinusoidal parametric excitation. Particular attention is paid to rods that are just longer than their critical length for self-weight buckling, and their possible stabilization by the excitation ...
