Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Empirical calibration of Na I D and other absorption lines as tracers of high-redshift neutral outflows

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Recent JWST observations of massive galaxies at z > 2 detect blueshifted absorption in Na I D and other resonant absorption lines, indicative of strong gas outflows in the neutral phase.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Zwitterionic Self‐Assembled Monolayer for Simultaneous Noise Suppression and Hole Extraction in High‐Performance Near‐Infrared Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a new hole transporting material (HTM) mechanism for self‐assembled monolayers in near‐infrared organic photodetectors. The formation of zwitterions induces a strong electric field that significantly increases the work function of HTM‐coated indium tin oxide substrates. The devices exhibit low dark current and noise, along with high

Research on the Static and Dynamic Behavior and Microscopic Mechanisms of Lignosulfonate-Treated Sand

open access: yesBuildings
Sand, a widely used material in construction, often presents challenges in engineering applications due to its loose granular structure. To address this issue, lignosulfonate (LS), an eco-friendly industrial by-product, is explored as a stabilizing agent

Experimental evidence for a light and broad scalar resonance in $D^+\to \pi^-\pi^+\pi^+$ decay

open access: yes, 2000
From a sample of $1172 \pm 61$ $D^+ \to \pi^- \pi^+ \pi^+$ decay, we find $\Gamma (D^+ \to \pi^- \pi^+ \pi^+) / \Gamma (D^+ \to K^- \pi^+ \pi^+) = 0.0311 \pm 0.0018 ^{+0.0016}_{-0.0026}$.

Sustainable Catalyst‐Free PLG Networks: Recyclability, Biodegradability, and Functional Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A catalyst‐additive free covalent adaptable network is developed from star‐shaped poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) cross‐linked with pyromellitic dianhydride, enabling internal carboxylic acid‐driven transesterification. The resulting biodegradable network exhibits mechanical robustness (Young's modulus ≈1.6 GPa), complete recyclability, rapid biodegradation

Comparative investigation on dynamic shear modulus and damping ratio of marine soils in different seas

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2020
To understand the variation characteristics of dynamic shear modulus G and damping ratio with the increasing depth H of marine soils, a series of resonant column tests are performed on silty clay with various depths taken from the three borehole ...

Bioinspired Stabilization of Fluorescent Au@SiO2 Tracers for Multimodal Biological Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a bioinspired stabilization strategy for fluorescent gold‐silica nanoparticles. Inspired by natural biosilica maturation, high‐temperature calcination transforms the silica shells, preventing dissolution in cell culture media and intracellular environments.
