2022 taxonomic update of phylum Negarnaviricota (Riboviria: Orthornavirae), including the large orders Bunyavirales and Mononegavirales [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In March 2022, following the annual International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) ratification vote on newly proposed taxa, the phylum Negarnaviricota was amended and emended.

Coding-Complete Genome Sequence of a Human Respirovirus 1 Strain from a Clinical Sample in Arizona

open access: yesMicrobiology Resource Announcements, 2020
Human respirovirus 1 is a single-stranded, negative-sense RNA virus in the family Paramyxoviridae . Using a high-throughput metagenomic approach, we identified and sequenced the coding-complete genome of a human respirovirus 1 strain from a nasal pharyngeal swab sample from a local health clinic in Tempe, Arizona.

CircRNAs: Biogenesis, identification and expression analysis [PDF]

open access: yesCellular, Molecular and Biomedical Reports
Circular ribonucleic acids (CircRNAs) represent a category of noncoding RNAs characterized by a circular structure bonded through covalent bonds. Unlike linear RNAs, CircRNAs are not affected by exonucleases and exhibit more stable expression.

Characterization of Two Porcine Parainfluenza Virus 1 Isolates and Human Parainfluenza Virus 1 Infection in Weaned Nursery Pigs

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences, 2022
Porcine parainfluenza virus 1 (PPIV1) is a newly characterized porcine respiratory virus. Recent experimental challenge studies in three-week-old nursery pigs failed to cause disease.

UK circulating strains of human parainfluenza 3: an amplicon based next generation sequencing method and phylogenetic analysis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Human parainfluenza viruses type 3 (HPIV3) are a prominent cause of respiratory infection with a significant impact in both pediatric and transplant patient cohorts.  Currently there is a paucity of whole genome sequence data that would allow

Predictors of human-infective RNA virus discovery in the United States, China, and Africa, an ecological study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
BACKGROUND: The variation in the pathogen type as well as the spatial heterogeneity of predictors make the generality of any associations with pathogen discovery debatable.

EMERGING VIRUSES ARE AN UNDERESTIMATED CAUSE OF UNDIAGNOSED FEBRILE ILLNESS IN UGANDA

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2023
Intro: Viruses that cause acute febrile illness (AFI) in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) lead to a spectrum of clinical disease from mild to life-threatening. Viral infection is often undiagnosed, resulting in onward transmission of high consequence pathogens ...

Detection of porcine parainfluenza virus type-1 antibody in swine serum using whole-virus ELISA, indirect fluorescence antibody and virus neutralizing assays

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2022
Background Porcine parainfluenza virus 1 (PPIV-1) is a respiratory virus in the family Paramyxoviridae and genus Respirovirus. It is closely related to bovine parainfluenza virus 3, human parainfluenza virus 1, and Sendai virus.
