Patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) from pancreatic, colorectal, and gastric cancers were used to evaluate standard and experimental therapies. Incorporating cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) into organoid cultures improved patient therapy outcome prediction.

A Simple Argument Showing How to Derive Restricted Maximum Likelihood
Abstract This paper presents a pedagogical argument to explain to quantitative geneticists how REML can be derived from maximum likelihood for estimation of variance components. The argument is first developed for N independent normal observations with mean μ and variance σ 2 and is afterward extended to a general linear mixed model structure, y ∼ N ...

Efficient Implementation of the New Restricted Maximum Likelihood Algorithms
Abstract Recently tridiagonalization and diagonalization have been proposed as methods to speed the EM algorithm for variance component estimation in restricted maximum likelihood. These methods require approximately the same computing resources, but only if the most efficient strategies are employed.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Identifying, Estimating and Testing Restricted Cointegrated Systems: An Overview [PDF]
The notion of cointegration has lead to a renewed interest in the identification and estimation of structural relations among economic time series, a field to which Henri Theil has made many pioneering contributions.

On non-negative estimation of variance components in mixed linear models
Alternative estimators have been derived for estimating the variance components according to Iterative Almost Unbiased Estimation (IAUE). As a result two modified IAUEs are introduced.

Linear mixed models have bias due to the assumed independence between random effects. Here, the authors describe a genome-based restricted maximum likelihood, CORE GREML, which estimates covariance between random effects.

Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

Asymptotic Properties of Pseudo Maximum Likelihood Estimates for Multiple Frequency I(1) Processes [PDF]
In this paper we derive (weak) consistency and the asymptotic distribution of pseudo maximum likelihood estimates for multiple frequency I(1) processes.
