Resveratrol and apoptosis [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2011
Resveratrol is a naturally occurring stilbene with desirable cardioprotective and anti‐cancer properties. We have demonstrated the existence of a plasma membrane receptor for resveratrol near the arginine–glycine–aspartate (RGD) recognition site on integrin αvβ3 that is involved in stilbene‐induced apoptosis of cancer cells.

In vitro characterization of mitochondrial function and structure in rat and human cells with a deficiency of the NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase Ndufc2 subunit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Ndufc2, a subunit of the NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase, plays a key role in the assembly and activity of complex I within the mitochondrial OXPHOS chain. Its deficiency has been shown to be involved in diabetes, cancer and stroke.

Chemical characterization of an encapsulated red wine powder and its effects on neuronal cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Red wine polyphenols are known for their implications for human health protection, although they suffer from high instability. For this reason, a red wine powder was prepared by freeze-drying encapsulation in maltodextrin/arabic gum matrix, and its ...

The potential for dietary factors to prevent or treat osteoarthritis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease for which there are no disease-modifying drugs. It is a leading cause of disability in the UK. Increasing age and obesity are both major risk factors for OA and the health and economic burden of this ...

In vitro antibiofilm activity of resveratrol against avian pathogenic Escherichia coli

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2021
Background Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) strains cause infectious diseases in poultry. Resveratrol is extracted from Polygonum cuspidatum, Cassia tora Linn and Vitis vinifera, and displays good antimicrobial activity.

Resveratrol and Diabetes [PDF]

open access: yesThe Review of Diabetic Studies, 2013
Resveratrol is a stilbene compound, and a phytoalexin, synthesized by plants in response to stressful stimuli, usually caused by infection. It is abundantly present in red wine, ports and sherries, red grapes, blueberries, peanuts, itadori tea, as well as hops, pistachios, and in grape and cranberry juices. The anti-hyperglycemic effects of resveratrol

Evaluation of Hungarian Wines for Resveratrol by Overpressured Layer Chromatography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A method, including solid phase extraction sample preparation, overpressured layer chromatographic separation and subsequent densitometric evaluation, was developed for measurement of total resveratrol (cis- and trans-isomers) content of wine. The amount

Resveratrol improves ex vivo mitochondrial function but does not affect insulin sensitivity or brown adipose tissue in first degree relatives of patients with type 2 diabetes

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2018
Objective: Resveratrol supplementation improves metabolic health in healthy obese men, but not in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) when given as add-on therapy.
