Increasing the Reuse Potential of High‐Strength Steels by Extending the Fatigue Life through Surface Treatments

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Surface reconditioning through mechanical and electrochemical polishing is shown to extend the fatigue life of predamaged 42CrMo4 steel by over 12 times. By removing ≈100 μm of surface material, surface‐driven fatigue damage is mitigated. This study introduces a reuse potential metric to evaluate fatigue recovery and support sustainable steel reuse. A Study on the Nanoscale Austenite Stabilized by Q&P Heat Treatment in a Low-alloy Medium-carbon Steel

open access: yesIranian Journal of Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
In this research, the objective was to investigate the stabilized retained austenite in the microstructure resulting from the Q&P heat treatment since the primary goal in Q&P is to create a microstructure consists of stabilized retained austenite ...

Influence of Competitive C–P Segregation on Austenite Grain Growth in Iron Alloys

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study investigates how carbon influences phosphorus‐induced solute drag effects during isothermal annealing of austenite grain growth in Fe–C–P alloys. Using in situ high‐temperature laser scanning confocal microscopy and density functional theory simulations, it demonstrates that carbon above a critical temperature significantly reduces P ...

ELECTRON-METALLOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION OF RETAINED AUSTENITE IN STEELS

open access: yesProceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1975
Recently it has been discovered by electron microscopy that even in medium carbon steels (Mf≳200°C) small quantities of interlath retained austenite (γ) is present in as-quenched structures. It is speculated that this small quantity of retained γ can have a profound influence on the mechanical properties of steel.

Characteristics of Retained Austenite in Cast GX70CrMnSiNiMo2 Alloy Tool Steel [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Foundry Engineering
Material wear strictly depends on hardness and microstructure, homogeneity of this microstructure in particular. The presence of retained austenite in the microstructure is not always the cause of the reduced wear resistance, though it is commonly ...

Multifaceted Behavior and Functional Versatility of Ferritic Stainless Steels, Part I: Applications and Processing, a Review

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This review investigates the processing‐microstructure‐property relationships in ferritic stainless steels (FSSs). It highlights advances in deformation behavior, heat treatments, surface modifications, and alloying effects. Theoretical models, including Johnson‐Mehl‐Avrami‐Kolmogorov, Arrhenius, nucleation theory, and diffusion theories, are discussed
