Effects of volume fraction and stability of retained austenite on formability in a 0.1C-1.5Si-1.5Mn-0.5Cu TRIP-aided cold-rolled steel sheet

open access: yes, 2019
The effects of volume fraction and stability of retained austenite on formability of a 0.1C-1.5Si-1.5Mn-0.5Cu (hereafter all in wt.%) TRIP-aided cold-rolled steel sheet was investigated after various heat treatments (intercritical annealing and ...

Role of refined martensite microstructure and intercritical Mn partitioning on austenite reversion in Fe–5Mn-1.5Al-0.2C alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In this paper, we demonstrate a novel design to accelerate the austenite reversion of a Fe–5Mn-1.5Al-0.2C (wt.%) medium Mn steel (MMS), via a deliberating adding an elevated pre-annealing before conventional intercritical annealing.

Alteration of Phase Transformation Behavior and Prior Austenite Grain Structure Due to Elevated Tramp Element Concentrations in a Hypoeutectoid Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The phase transformation behavior of a hypoeutectoid steel is studied in comparison with alloys containing higher concentrations of tramp elements, simulating high recycling rates. The examination of microstructures reveals that the tramp elements facilitate the formation of displacive phases along with retained austenite.

Influence of Heat Treatment and Scan Rotation on the Microstructure of Hot Work Tool Steel Manufactured using Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The study investigates the influence of heat treatment and scan rotation on the microstructure of a modified H13 tool steel manufactured using laser powder bed fusion. Key findings include the refinement of prior austenite grains (PAGs) due to recrystallization and carbide pinning, and the significant impact of scan rotation on the size distribution of

Effects of intercritical annealing time on microstructure, tensile properties, and cryogenic toughness of newly designed ultra-low C low Ni Medium-Mn steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
An ultra-low carbon and low nickel medium manganese heavy steel plates was fabricated by quenching and intercritical annealing process. The effect of annealing time on the tensile properties and impact toughness were studied in relation to the formation ...

Recycling End‐of‐Life Solid Oxide Cell Interconnect Assemblies into Commercial‐Grade AISI 304 Stainless Steels

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study validates a recycling pathway for converting interconnect assemblies from end‐of‐life SOC stacks into commercial‐grade AISI 304 steels. Using scrap‐based steelmaking operations, austenitic cast steels with <4.0% δ‐ferrite are successfully produced.

Thermodynamic Modeling of Sn–C and Fe–Sn–C Systems for the Tramp Elements Control in Steel Production

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
A CALculation of PHAse Diagrams thermodynamic modeling for Fe–Sn–C system is carried out. The model and the developed database can be used to calculate phase diagrams and thermodynamic properties of this system over wide temperature/composition range, and a part of a larger thermodynamic database for steel and alloy system, and effectively used to ...

Thermal stability of retained Austenite in TRIP steel after different treatments

open access: yes, 2008
Thermal decomposition of retained austenite in TRIP steel was investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSc). The decomposition curve was abnormal, and the decomposition temperature and the activation energy were measured by the ...

Alloy Qualification for Producing Quench and Tempered Plate Steels with Extra‐Heavy Gage

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study develops alloy concepts for ultraheavy steel plates (>100 mm) with ≥690 MPa yield strength. Through dilatometry and Jominy testing, the effects of Mo, Ni, and B on hardenability are quantified. A synergy between 0.5% Mo and 0.5%–1.0% Ni ensures core strength at low cooling rates, while boron microalloying suppresses ferrite and promotes ...
