Effect of quenching temperature on the austenite stability and mechanical properties of high-strength air-cooled TRIP steel prepared with hot-rolled C–Si–Mn sheets

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
This paper systematically studies the effect of quenching temperature on the microstructure evolution and the relationship between the microstructure and mechanical properties of air-cooled TRIP steel prepared with C–Si–Mn hot-rolled sheet.

Toward the Application of Multiaxial Failure Criteria: Mean Stress Sensitivity of Carbide‐Rich, High‐Alloy PM‐HIP Tool Steels Under Axial and Torsional Cyclic Loading

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study quantifies axial and torsional long‐life fatigue (LLF) behavior of three carbide‐rich PM‐HIP tool steels, correlating LLF strength with intrinsic defect size and cleanliness, thereby extracting material‐specific mean stress sensitivities and Haigh diagrams.

The Effect of Retained Austenite Stability on Mechanical Properties of TRIP Sheet Steels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Dynamic mechanical properties of TRIP steels with the same volume fraction but different stabilities of retained austenite were evaluated over a wide range of strain rates using a high-velocity hydraulic tensile testing machine.

Creep Performance of Stainless Steel 316 Brackets: Insights From Conventional and Advanced Modeling Approaches

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Creep behavior of SS 316 brackets is examined through experiments, conventional creep laws, and advanced constitutive modeling. Long‐term deformation, stress redistribution, and life prediction are compared under service‐relevant loads. The study highlights the limits of classical models and demonstrates improved accuracy using advanced approaches for ...

Microstructure and mechanical property regulation of hot-rolled Al-contained medium-Mn steel by double intercritical annealing

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng
Usually, the initial microstructure of hot-rolled and quenched medium-manganese experimental steel is composed of lath martensite matrix and a small amount of tiny granular austenite, also existing apparent Mn-segregation bands. Using double intercritical

In Situ Investigation of Microstructure Evolution and Stress Generation During Low‐Pressure Carburizing and Quenching by Means of Synchrotron X‐Ray Diffraction

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study uses in situ synchrotron X‐ray diffraction at the German Electron Synchrotron to analyze low‐pressure carburizing (LPC) in steels. The findings reveal surface carbon saturation and carbide formation kinetics, and phase‐specific stress development during quenching. The results show carbide kinetics depend on steel grade and size, while stress

Microstructure Characterization of Bending Effects in 304L Stainless Steel Cladded with Low‐Alloy Steel Weld

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Prebending of 304L/Q345R cladded plates significantly alters the subsequent weld thermal cycle and modifies the local interfacial microstructure. Combined electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and microscopy analysis demonstrates that deformation twinning, martensitic transformation, and defect initiation are concentrated at the trimaterial junction,

Effect of Double Annealing on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a Medium Manganese Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
A double intercritical annealing strategy is proposed to tailor the multiphase microstructure and mechanical response of a medium‐Mn steel. The treatment produces an ultrafine mixture of ferrite, martensite and multiple austenite populations with graded thermal and mechanical stability, formed through austenite reversion and controlled retransformation.

Influence of Tramp Elements on Phase Transformations, Structure, and Properties of Scrap‐Based Steels: A Focused Review of Recent Developments

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This review explains how impurities from recycled scrap affect steel production and performance. Even small amounts (far below 1%) of these impurities can change how steel behaves during fabrication but also affect the properties of the end product. With better understanding and targeted countermeasures, these challenges can be managed, enabling wider ...
