Reticulocyte Response in the Cat

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1972
SUMMARY In a study of 8 normal adult domestic cats, 2 morphologic forms of feline reticulocytes were identifiable: erythrocytes that contained dense aggregates of reticulum and those that contained variable amounts of reticulum visible as punctate foci. It was concluded that each of these forms is an integral part of the total feline reticulocyte count.

Antibody to Rabbit Reticulocytes

Nature, 1969
THE functional differences between reticulocytes and erythrocytes suggest that there may be antigenic differences on their surfaces. If there were antigen(s) only on immature erythroid cells, they could be useful markers in studies of erythroid development.

Studies on reticulocyte division

Experimental Cell Research, 1959
Abstract 1. 1. The hypothesis that reticulocytes divide was tested by maturing reticulocytes in vitro and in vivo. 2. 2. Cell counts of reticulocyte samples incubated in vitro indicated that reticulocytes do not divide. However, the standard errors of the cell counts were high. 3. 3.

RETICULOCYTES IN HEALTHY PREGNANCY

Medical Journal of Australia, 1975
High reticulocyte counts are commonly found during pregnancy in non-anaemic Greek and Italian women, whereas in Anglo-Saxon women counts rarely rise above 2-0%. In this study, the Greek and Italian groups had peak mean values of 2-9%, although it occurred some weeks earlier in the Italian group.

Error in Counting Reticulocytes

Nature, 1948
WHEN immature mammalian red cells, or reticulocytes, are stained with brilliant Cresyl Blue they may be differentiated from adult red cells and enumerated in a sample as a percentage. If these cells were scattered according to chance, reticulocyte counts would be expected to follow the binomial distribution.

Ribosomes in Reticulocyte Maturation

1973
During the last stage of red cell differentiation, the ribosomal content of red cells undergoes accelerated breakdown (1–3). The sedimentation velocity coefficients of chicken red cell ribosomes have been reported to change from 82S in immature red cells to 62S in fully differentiated cells (4).
