Decellularized retinal matrix: Natural platforms for human retinal progenitor cell culture

Acta Biomaterialia, 2016
Tissue decellularization strategies have enabled engineering of scaffolds that preserve native extracellular matrix (ECM) structure and composition. In this study, we developed decellularized retina (decell-retina) thin films. We hypothesized that these films, mimicking the retina niche, would promote human retinal progenitor cell (hRPC) attachment ...

Progenitor cells and retinal angiogenesis

Angiogenesis, 2007
Nothing more dramatically captures the imagination of the visually impaired patient or the ophthalmologist treating them than the possibility of rebuilding a damaged retina or vasculature with "stem cells." Stem cells (SC) have been isolated from adult tissues and represent a pool of cells that may serve to facilitate rescue/repair of damaged tissue ...

Membrane properties of retinal stem cells/progenitors

Progress in Retinal and Eye Research, 2005
The membrane properties of cells help integrate extrinsic information relayed through growth factors, chemokines, extracellular matrix, gap junctions and neurotransmitters towards modulating cell-intrinsic properties, which in turn determine whether cells remain quiescent, proliferate, differentiate, establish contact with other cells or remove ...

Microscopic characterization of rat retinal progenitor cells

Brain Research, 2007
A progenitor cell line was developed from a postnatal day 2 (P2) rat retina to study the effects of secreted proteins of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) on isolated retinal progenitor cells and markers for immature and differentiated retinal cells. Progenitor cells were cloned from a P2 explant grown in secreted proteins of cultured RPE cells.
