Analysis of treatment‐naïve high‐grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) and control tissues for ERVs, LINE‐1 (L1), inflammation, and immune checkpoints identified five clusters with diverse patient recurrence‐free survivals. An inflammation score was calculated and correlated with retroelement expression, where one novel cluster (Triple‐I) with high ...

Carcinoma‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in tumors influence cancer progression. We identified endoglin (ENG) as a key factor in TGF‐β signaling in myofibroblastic CAFs (myCAFs), linked to poor breast cancer outcomes. Inhibiting ENG on myCAFs suppressed the TGF‐β‐Smad2/3 pathway, reducing primary tumor growth and metastasis.

4′-Acylated thymidine 5′-triphosphates: a tool to increase selectivity towards HIV-1 reverse transcriptase [PDF]
4′-Acylated thymidines represent a new class of DNA chain terminators, since they have been shown to act as post-incorporation chain-terminating nucleotides despite the presence of a free 3′-hydroxyl group. Here, we describe the action of the 4′-acetyl- (

There is no correlation between c-Myc mRNA expression and telomerase activity in human breast cancer [PDF]
Background Telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein enzyme that synthesises telomeres after cell division and maintains chromosomal length and stability thus leading to cellular immortalisation.

A diversity of uncharacterized reverse transcriptases in bacteria [PDF]
Retroelements are usually considered to be eukaryotic elements because of the large number and variety in eukaryotic genomes. By comparison, reverse transcriptases (RTs) are rare in bacteria, with only three characterized classes: retrons, group II introns and diversity-generating retroelements (DGRs).

Small extracellular vesicles are a promising source of diagnostic molecules. We conducted a comprehensive study, including transcriptome profiling and RT‐qPCR validation on large cohorts of samples. Diagnostic panels enabling sensitive detection of colorectal cancer and precancerous lesions were established. Some molecules were differentially expressed

Asymmetric conformational maturation of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase
HIV-1 reverse transcriptase utilizes a metamorphic polymerase domain that is able to adopt two alternate structures that fulfill catalytic and structural roles, thereby minimizing its coding requirements. This ambiguity introduces folding challenges that

An Unexplored Diversity of Reverse Transcriptases in Bacteria
ABSTRACTReverse transcriptases (RTs) are usually thought of as eukaryotic enzymes, but they are also present in bacteria and likely originated in bacteria and migrated to eukaryotes. Only three types of bacterial retroelements have been substantially characterized: group II introns, diversity-generating retroelements, and retrons. Recent work, however,

Stem cell‐based embryo models (SCBEMs) are valuable to study early developmental milestones. Matrigel, a basement membrane matrix, is a critical substrate used in various SCBEM protocols, but its role in driving stem cell lineage commitment is not clearly defined.
