An above IC MEMS RF switch

IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, 2003
Addressing reconfiguration of radio frequency (RF) systems might require high performance integrated RF switching capabilities. In this regard, a particular design experience of an integrated circuit (IC) monolithically integrated microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) ohmic switch is reported here. Applications at 2 GHz have been targeted.

A Comparison between RF MEMS Switches and Semiconductor Switches

2004 International Conference on MEMS, NANO and Smart Systems (ICMENS'04), 2004
This paper addresses the fundamentals of RF switches providing a comparison between semiconductor and RF MEMS switches. The basis of comparison is introduced by defining a figure of merit that is a function of the off-state capacitance and the on-state resistance.

RF MEMS switches and switch circuits

IEEE Microwave Magazine, 2001
MEMS switches are devices that use mechanical movement to achieve a short circuit or an open circuit in the RF transmission line. RF MEMS switches are the specific micromechanical switches that are designed to operate at RF-to-millimeter-wave frequencies (0.1 to 100 GHz).

Novel RF MEMS Switches

2007 Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference, 2007
This paper reviews three novel RF MEMS ohmic contact switches, each being designed for specific applications. All three were developed at Imperial College London. The first is a packaged single-pole double throw (SPDT) version intended for space applications, operating from DC to 6 GHz; the second is a single-pole single throw (SPST) switch for high ...

RF-MEMS switches: paradigms of microwave switching

APMC 2001. 2001 Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (Cat. No.01TH8577), 2002
This paper reviews the most recent development of RF-MEMS switches in microwave and mm-wave frequencies up to 110 GHz W-band frequencies. RF-MEMS switches are categorised in different configurations such as cantilever, air-bridge and diaphragm with series and shunt configurations and resistive and capacitive contacts.

RF MEMS switch for wireless LAN applications

Proceedings International Conference on MEMS, NANO and Smart Systems, 2004
Double cantilever beam MEMS switch was developed for wireless LAN applications. The two beams are controlled by a single actuation electrode. The dimension of the fabricated cantilever beam is 150 /spl mu/m /spl times/ 60 /spl mu/m /spl times/ 0.6 /spl mu/m. The spacing between the top beam and the bottom ground electrode was approximately 1 /spl mu/m.

Advances In MEMS switches For RF test applications

2016 11th European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference (EuMIC), 2016
This paper details the broadband RF switching challenges in Test and Measurement (T&M) and Automated Test Equipment (ATE) applications, including the need for high performance RF switches capable of 25W. The design, validation and manufacturing of ohmic RF MEMS switches are presented as suitable replacements for electromechanical (EM) switches in T&M ...

Low Frequency Test for RF MEMS Switches

2010 Fifth IEEE International Symposium on Electronic Design, Test & Applications, 2010
In order to envision fault-tolerant SiPs and SoCs containing RF MEMS switches, this paper studies easily embedded low frequency tests for capacitive switches. The correlation between high frequency (S parameters) and low frequency (envelope of the high frequency signal) responses of a capacitive RF MEMS switch is analysed.

RF MEMS switches and applications

2002 IEEE International Reliability Physics Symposium. Proceedings. 40th Annual (Cat. No.02CH37320), 2003
RF MEMS are small mechanical devices fabricated by photolithographic processes, which are used for elemental signal processing functions in rf and microwave frequency circuits. The most common RF MEMS control component is a microwave transmission line switch, currently under development for applications requiring low insertion loss, high linearity ...
