Abstract figure legend TMEM16A plays a pivotal role in setting the duration of the action potential plateau in human uterine smooth muscle. An increase in TMEM16A expression in labour underpins a lengthening of the plateau and this provides time for the contraction to become larger and longer, important for timely successful labour.

MicroRNA profiling of rhesus macaque embryonic stem cells
Background MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in embryonic stem cell (ESC) self-renewal and pluripotency. Numerous studies have revealed human and mouse ESC miRNA profiles.

Cannabinoid exposure during pregnancy: Cardiorespiratory effects and offspring outcomes
Abstract figure legend Prenatal exposure to cannabinoids has been investigated across human and animal studies to understand its impact on physiological development. Evidence suggests that early‐life cannabinoid exposure influence multiple developmental processes, extending beyond neurodevelopmental outcomes to potentially affect placental function ...

Clonal tracking of erythropoiesis in rhesus macaques
The classical model of hematopoietic hierarchies is being reconsidered on the basis of data from in vitro assays and single cell expression profiling. Recent experiments suggested that the erythroid lineage might differentiate directly from multipotent hematopoietic stem cells / progenitors or from a highly biased subpopulation of stem cells, rather ...

ABSTRACT Introduction Natural hosts of simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV), including sooty mangabeys (SMs), maintain high viremia without progressing to AIDS and AIDS‐associated histopathogenesis. The mechanisms underlying this protection and lack of pathogenesis remain incompletely understood, particularly in relation to monocyte/macrophage ...

Comparison of sensitivity of rhesus and cynomolgus macaque for acute radiation effects
Radiation medical countermeasure development under the United States Food and Drug Administration Animal Rule needs validated large animal models of acute radiation syndrome. Such a well-established large animal model is the rhesus nonhuman primate.

Broadening horizons: Pathogenesis and therapeutics of renal ciliopathies
This review elucidates the molecular mechanisms and aberrant signaling pathways in renal ciliopathies, links genetic heterogeneity to clinical phenotypes, and lays a theoretical basis for prenatal diagnosis and novel therapies. Abstract Renal ciliopathies encompass a spectrum of genetic disorders arising from structural or functional impairments of ...

ABSTRACT Management of cerebral vasculopathy in sickle cell anemia (SCA) includes standard‐care, that is, chronic transfusion (CT) or hydroxyurea, and hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). DREPAGREFFE‐1 (December 2010/June 2013), a French multicenter trial, was the first prospective trial comparing standard‐care to match sibling donor (MSD)‐HCT in ...
