Modification of a loop sequence between α-helices 6 and 7 of virus capsid (CA) protein in a human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) derivative that has simian immunodeficiency virus (SIVmac239) vif and CA α-helices 4 and 5 loop improves replication in cynomolgus monkey cells

open access: yesRetrovirology, 2009
Background Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) productively infects only humans and chimpanzees but not cynomolgus or rhesus monkeys while simian immunodeficiency virus isolated from macaque (SIVmac) readily establishes infection in those monkeys.

Ultra-High-Resolution in vitro MRI Study of Age-Related Brain Subcortical Susceptibility Alteration in Rhesus Monkeys at 9.4 T

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2020
Iron concentration in the brain has been suggested as a biomarker of pathologic neurodegeneration. However, the iron concentration changes in healthy aging as well.

The MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) rhesus macaque embryonic brain histology datasets

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We introduce the MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) Collections of rhesus macaque embryonic brain tissue. Here, we illustrate histo‐ and immunohistology from our dynamically growing Collection 6, which currently contains >10,000 zoomable and downloadable images from n = 14 male and female embryos from early to late in gestation.

HTRA3 expression in non-pregnant rhesus monkey ovary and endometrium, and at the maternal-fetal interface during early pregnancy

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology, 2008
Background HTRA3 is a recently identified member of the mammalian serine protease family HTRA (high temperature requirement factor A). In both the rodent and the human HTRA3 is transcribed into two mRNA species (long and short) through alternative ...

Experimental Hypertension in the Rhesus Monkey

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1957
SummarySix methods useful in producing experimental hypertension in other laboratory animals were studied in rhesus monkeys. Two methods involving direct constriction of the renal arteries either by silk ligatures or small transparent plastic clamps resulted in a significant incidence of hypertension.

The MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) rhesus macaque postnatal brain histology datasets: Enabling new discoveries through NHP tissue and digital data Repositories

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
The MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) postnatal rhesus macaque brain histology datasets are organized into Collections that promote cost‐effective de novo research. This article provides examples from Collections 5, 6, and 7 and describes the histo‐ and immunohistochemical (IHC) processing of materials for Collection 6.

Persistent intraocular Ebola virus RNA is associated with severe uveitis in a convalescent rhesus monkey

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2022
Deep characterization of uveitis in a rhesus monkey confirms Ebola virus RNA persistence is associated with severe immunopathology in the eye, with broader implications for the prevention and treatment of sight-threatening uveitis in human survivors of ...

Pharmacokinetics of a Single Subcutaneous Extended‐Release Buprenorphine (Ethiqa XR) in Healthy Beagles

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the pharmacokinetics of an extended‐release buprenorphine formulation (Ethiqa XR) in dogs and explored potential sex differences. Twelve healthy intact beagles (6 males and 6 females) received a single subcutaneous injection of Ethiqa XR (0.2 mg/kg).

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1947
Foram observadas infecções no macaco americano "Sagui" (Callitrix jacchus, Linneu 1758), quando inoculados com Plasmodium knowlesi. Inoculações massiças intra-venosas, são mortais em cerca de 10 dias.

Knowledge and Argument

open access: yesNoûs, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT I argue that knowledge plays a distinctive role in psychological explanation that weaker epistemic states cannot because it is robust in the face of counterevidence in a way that they are not. Being robust in the face of counterevidence makes your belief robust in the face of counterargument.
