Hemolytic activity of Rhizopus nigricans and Rhizopus arrhizus
Mycopathologia et Mycologia Applicata, 1970Rhizopus nigricans andR. arrhizus were cultured in modified Sabouraud broth and synthetic dextrose-glutamate medium for periods of two to eight weeks. Rhizopus Rot of Mulberry-grafted Saplings Caused by Rhizopus oryzae
Journal of General Plant Pathology, 2001A new disease on stocks of mulberry-grafted saplings was found in Tsukuba in 1999. A representative isolate of the Rhizopus species that was consistently isolated from rotted tissues was pathogenic to healthy mulberry stocks. The causal fungus was identified morphologically as Rhizopus oryzae Went & Prinsen Geerligs.

Rhizopus Acid Proteinases (Rhizopus-pepsins): Properties and Homology with Other Acid Proteinases
Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1973Commercial acid proteinase from Rhizopus chinensis has been further purified by isoelectric focussing. Two forms of the enzyme (I and II) with very similar properties have been obtained. Like other fungal acid proteinases they activate trypsinogen at pH 3.4 and are inhibited by diazoacetyl norleucine methyl ester.

A 29-year-old woman in good health except for scoliosis suffered severe sequelae during the postoperative course for placement of a Harrington rod. A cutaneous Rhizopus infection in and about the incision site was attributed to the use of a contaminated elasticized adhesive (Elastoplast) dressing.

Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1960The increased incidence of mucormycosis in recent years was described by Baker (1957), and Hutter reviewed the literature since 1815 and presented four new cases of his own (1959). Such reports serve to focus attention on a group of micro-organisms which had earlier been assumed to be harmless saprophytes with no etiologic significance.
