Comments on Masudul Alam Chuodhury: 'Islamic critique and alternative to financial engineering issues' [PDF]

open access: yes
This review questions Chuodhury's use of topological spaces for criticising the risk-return issues in mainstream financial literature. It highlights the failure of the work in producing an understandable Islamic alternate framework for the purpose ...

Quantifying Changes in Creativity: Findings from an Engineering Course on the Design of Complex and Origami Structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Engineering educators have increasingly sought strategies for integrating the arts into their curricula. The primary objective of this integration varies, but one common objective is to improve students’ creative thinking skills. In this paper, we sought

Highly multiplexed digital PCR assay for simultaneous quantification of variant allele frequencies and copy number alterations of KRAS and GNAS in pancreatic cancer precursors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples

Comparing self‐reported race and genetic ancestry for identifying potential differentially methylated sites in endometrial cancer: insights from African ancestry proportions using machine learning models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Integrating ancestry, differential methylation analysis, and machine learning, we identified robust epigenetic signature genes (ESGs) and Core‐ESGs in Black and White women with endometrial cancer. Core‐ESGs (namely APOBEC1 and PLEKHG5) methylation levels were significantly associated with survival, with tumors from high African ancestry (THA) showing ...

Risk Analysis Techniques in Construction Engineering Projects [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Risk Analysis and Crisis Response, 2012
There is a great deal of risk analysis techniques and tools available for the management of risks. In principle, each risk analysis technique has its strengths and weaknesses. Techniques such as Probability Theory, Certainty Factors, Dempster-Shaffer Theory of Evidence and Fuzzy Logic are discussed with regard to their application to risk analysis in ...

Risk Analysis of Earth-Rock Dam Failures Based on Fuzzy Event Tree Method

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2018
Earth-rock dams make up a large proportion of the dams in China, and their failures can induce great risks. In this paper, the risks associated with earth-rock dam failure are analyzed from two aspects: the probability of a dam failure and the resulting ...

Multi‐omic characterization of consensus molecular subtype 1 (CMS1) colorectal cancer with dampened immune response improves precision medicine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study highlights the importance of multi‐omic analyses in characterizing colorectal cancers. Indeed, our analysis revealed a rare CMS1 exhibiting dampened immune activation, including reduced PD‐1 expression, moderate CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, and suppressed JAK/STAT pathway.
