STAPHYLOCOCCIC ENDOCARDITIS TREATED WITH RISTOCETIN

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1958
The treatment of endocarditis caused by Staphylococcus (Micrococcus) pyogenes var. aureus has become a challenging problem; therefore, two patients successfully treated with a new antibiotic agent, ristocetin, are reported on here. In these two patients, the infections were acquired in hospitals and, as might be expected, the staphylococci were ...

The biosynthesis of ristocetin

Journal of the Chemical Society, Chemical Communications, 1983
In the biosynthesis of ristocetin by Nocardia Iurida it has been shown that m,m′-dihydroxyphenylglycine and p-methyl-m,m′- dihydroxyphenylglycine can be derived from acetic acid, whereas p-hydroxyphenylglycine and β-hydroxytyrosine are derived from tyrosine.

Willebrand Factor and Ristocetin I. MECHANISM OF RISTOCETIN‐INDUCED PLATELET AGGREGATION

British Journal of Haematology, 1974
Summary. Ristocetin induces aggregation of normal platelet‐rich plasma over a wide range of concentrations. Low doses induce a biphasic response of which the first wave is not mediated by ADP and proceeds without the initial platelet shape change. The absence of aggregation in von Willebrand's disease results from the lack of a component, Willebrand ...

Ristocetin induces platelet aggregation: a morphological demonstration

British Journal of Haematology, 1988
Changes in the morphology of human platelets induced by ristocetin in platelet‐rich plasma (PRP) have been analysed at the ultrastructural level by means of a tannic acid procedure. Studies were also undertaken to measure the release of serotonin. Modifications of the aggregation tests induced by apyrase, a monoclonal antibody (Mab) to GPIIb/ IIIa and ...

Lithium inhibition of ristocetin-induced fibrinogen precipitation

Thrombosis Research, 1978
We have recently shown that ristocetin-induced platelet aggregation can be inhibited by lithium, perhaps by the involvement of a plasma factor, possibly fibrinogen (1). 5esides inducing platelet aggregation, ristocetin will also precipitate fibrinogen from human plasma (2). Using a rapid slide testassay (3).

Binding of Ristocetin to Platelets

Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1979
Ristocetin induces platelet agglutination in the presence of von Willebrand factor (VIIIR:WF), part of the factor VIII complex. The role of ristocetin in platelet agglutination is not yet. Clear. To follow the interaction of ristocetin with platelets and/or VIIIR:WF, ristocetin was labelled with[3H] by reductive methylation.
